A Tattooed Wizard draws on the magic of permanent markings etched onto their skin, each tattoo an indelible memory and arcane sigil intertwined. Through these magical tattoos, they wield spells with the weight of personal history and unbreakable permanence, creating a spellbook that can never be lost or destroyed. These wizards gain power by inscribing and imbuing spells directly into their skin, mastering their craft at great personal cost. With the ability to channel their own essence into their magic, a Tattooed Wizard’s magic flows from within, embodying their own stories and experiences in every spell they cast.
Level 2:
Tattooed Arcana
Your body serves as your spellbook, with each spell permanently inscribed on your skin through magical tattoos. To add a new spell, you must undergo a special tattooing process using rare inks, which costs the same as scribing the spell in a traditional spellbook. Once a spell is tattooed, it cannot be erased or lost, embodying the permanence that tattoos represent. Due to this, you cannot share or copy spells to other wizards in the conventional way.
Your tattoos function as your spellcasting focus, eliminating the need for a separate material focus as long as you can touch your own skin. Material components without a listed cost are channeled directly through your tattoos, integrating your magic into your very being.
Level 2:
Memory Imprint
Choose two 1st-level spells from the wizard spell list to become Memory Imprints on your body. You can cast these spells once per long rest without expending a spell slot. You can change the selected spells during a long rest, allowing you to adapt your spell selection.
Level 6:
Echoes of Memory
When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can call upon your tattoos to channel powerful memories, granting one of the following benefits:
-
Empowered Casting: Add your proficiency modifier to one damage or healing roll of the spell.
-
Enduring Spell: If the spell has a duration of 1 minute or longer, you can double its duration.
-
Memory Lapse: If the spell requires a saving throw, subtract a number equal to your proficiency modifier from the target’s saving throw roll.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier, regaining all uses after a long rest.
Level 10:
Expanded Memory Imprints
Your mastery over the arcane tattoos deepens, allowing you to inscribe up to three spells as Memory Imprints. The combined level of these imprinted spells cannot exceed 5th level (e.g., one 3rd-level spell and two 1st-level spells, or one 5th-level spell). You can cast each of these spells once per long rest without expending a spell slot. Additionally, if any of these spells require concentration, you no longer need to maintain concentration on them.
You can change these imprinted spells during a long rest, giving you greater flexibility in your spellcasting repertoire.
Level 14:
Convergence of Eternal Ink
Once per long rest, you can enter an elevated state known as Convergence of Eternal Ink, drawing on the deepest reserves of your power as all of your tattoos connect in a surge of magical energy. This state lasts for up to 1 minute and grants the following benefits:
-
You gain a +5 bonus to all spell attack rolls and spell save DCs.
-
You have advantage on all concentration checks.
-
You gain resistance to non-magical physical damage as your tattoos form an arcane shield around your body.
The Cost of Power: At the end of each of your turns while in this state, you must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. For each failed save, you gain one stack of Inkburn (maximum of 5 stacks). If you choose to end this state as a bonus action early or reach 5 stacks, you immediately lose all benefits and gain points of exhaustion equal to the number of Inkburn stacks accumulated.
