Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

After a brush with death—a moment when your life should have ended—you found yourself face-to-face with the Grim Reaper. Rather than claim your soul, Death offered you a pact: your soul in exchange for the powers of death itself. Now, Death follows you, waiting for the moment it can finally claim you. As one of the stalked, you serve Death as its Avatar, empowered to claim the lives of those you choose, though you are compelled to prioritize those marked by the Reaper itself. With this bond, you wield death’s might, inspiring terror as Death’s presence lingers at your side.

Tenets of Stalked by Death

Those who serve Death abide by its grim purpose and accept its silent, yet inevitable judgment.

Death’s Order: Respect the natural balance of life and death.

Acceptance of Mortality: Embrace death as your guide, understanding it is the final truth.

Unyielding Pursuit: Just as Death is relentless, so too must you be.

The Reaper’s Hand: Claim lives as necessary, but always prioritize those marked by Death itself.

Level 3: Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Death’s Scythe: As a bonus action, you summon a spectral scythe lent to you by the Reaper. This scythe deals 2d8 necrotic damage and uses your Charisma modifier for attack and damage rolls. While wielding it, you gain advantage on Intimidation checks, as the Reaper’s shadow strikes fear into those who see you. The scythe remains for 1 minute or until you release it as a free action.

Death’s Chains: As an action, you can summon chains of dark energy to bind a creature within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be restrained for 1 minute. A restrained target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, breaking free on a success. While restrained, the target takes 1d6 necrotic damage at the start of each of its turns.

Level 3: Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Stalked By Death Spells

Level 7: Necrotic Channeling

You learn to channel the power of death more effectively. When you cast a necromancy spell of 1st level or higher, you can add your Charisma modifier to one necrotic damage roll of that spell. Additionally, your necromancy spells that require concentration can be maintained for one additional round without requiring a concentration check, reflecting the influence of the Reaper guiding your will.

Level 15: Claim the soul

When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can choose one of the following effects:

  • Ability Replication: You can use one of the creature's abilities or traits as if you were that creature. You can use this ability once, and it cannot be a legendary action or legendary resistance.

  • Hit Point Regeneration: Alternatively, you regain hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + half your paladin level.

Once per long rest, if an effect would reduce you to 0 hit points, you may instead drop to 1 hit point, evading Death’s claim.

Level 20: True Avatar of Death

At 20th level, as an action, you fully embody the Avatar of Death’s power. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • Reaper’s Presence: Your form is cloaked in shadow, with Death’s image beside you. Creatures of your choice within 30 feet that can see you must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be frightened for the duration.
  • Necrotic Resilience: You gain immunity to necrotic and poison damage and resistance to all damage except radiant.
  • Empowered Scythe: While wielding Death’s Scythe, you deal an additional 2d8 necrotic damage, and creatures hit by it have disadvantage on their next attack roll.

Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
