Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Description

By weaving together strands of pure arcane power, the War Weaver becomes a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. These masterful spellcasters establish an Eldritch Tapestry among their comrades, a network of shimmering threads that links allies together through shared magic. With unparalleled precision, they manipulate the threads of this tapestry to enhance their companions’ abilities, distribute their spells across multiple targets, and provide crucial support exactly where it’s needed.

Far from reckless or impulsive, War Weavers are meticulous in their craft. They view magic as a fabric to be shaped and reinforced, each thread a conduit of potential. Their approach requires intellect, preparation, and an eye for strategy, turning even the most chaotic battlefield into a carefully controlled design. A well-prepared War Weaver ensures their party operates as a seamless unit, using their arcane artistry to amplify teamwork and turn the tide of combat.

Playstyle and Flavor

The War Weaver is a tactical enabler, thriving in battles where coordination and teamwork reign supreme. They specialize in extending the range and scope of their spells, empowering their allies to act as extensions of their magic. Through their Eldritch Tapestry, War Weavers allow their spells to resonate across their team, forging an interconnected web of arcane energy.

To those who can perceive magic, such as with the True Seeing spell, the War Weaver’s magic appears as an intricate dance of luminous threads, faintly shimmering as they weave spells into their tapestry. These threads stretch between the War Weaver and their allies, glowing softly with latent power until activated. Though unseen by most, the War Weaver’s influence is felt unmistakably—bolstering a faltering ally or dispersing magic across the party at just the right moment—ensuring the group functions as a unified whole.

This subclass appeals to players who relish preparation, strategy, and teamwork. A War Weaver’s spells are tools of collaboration, enabling their allies to shine and ensuring no one fights alone. For a War Weaver, every battle is a masterpiece in the making, each thread of magic carefully placed to create harmony amidst the chaos.

Eldritch Tapestry

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to weave magical bonds with allies, represented by an Eldritch Tapestry. During a long rest, you can weave a number of allies into your Tapestry equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1). You are not included in the Tapestry and do not count toward this limit.

When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that targets one woven ally, you can use a bonus action to also target any number of other woven allies, provided they are within the spell's range and within 30 feet of you. The Tapestry can only support a total number of spell levels equal to your Wizard level. If a spell cast through the Tapestry exceeds this limit, the spell fails, and the Tapestry is destroyed. You can maintain only one Tapestry at a time, and creating a new one destroys the old.

If a concentration spell affects multiple targets through the Tapestry, all targets benefit for one round. Starting on your next turn, you can maintain concentration on up to two targets, while the effect ends for the others. Casting a spell through the Tapestry only requires the spell slots and components for a single casting.

Quiescent Weaving

At 6th level, you can cast Quiescent Weavings, targeted leveled spells without immediate effect, into your Eldritch Tapestry.
This feature can be used twice per short or long rest, consuming resources as normal for casting the spell into your Eldritch Tapestry.

A Quiescent Weaving lingers for up to 1 hour, after which the spell dissipates harmlessly.
You can activate a Quiescent Weaving only once using either a Bonus Action or a Reaction:

Bonus Action: Affects all allies in your Eldritch Tapestry.
Reaction: Affects only one ally in your Eldritch Tapestry.

When activated, any target of a Quiescent Weaving must be within both the spell’s range and the Eldritch Tapestry's range.
Activating a Quiescent Weaving is vulnerable to Counterspell, Dispel Magic, or similar effects, treated as active 1st-level spell effects.

Enlarged Tapestry

At 10th level, your mastery of the Eldritch Tapestry enhances the range of spells cast through it.
Spells with a range of touch now extend to 30 feet, while those with greater ranges gain an additional 30 feet. Spells with a range of self remain unaffected.
The range limit of your Eldritch Tapestry also increases to 60 feet.

These benefits apply to spells cast through Quiescent Weaving as well.

Arcane Conduit

At 14th level, you can act as an Arcane Conduit, extending the effects of your Eldritch Tapestry to another spellcaster. To do so, you must ready an action to open your tapestry to a spellcaster within 60 feet. Until the start of your next turn, that spellcaster can cast spells through your tapestry, affecting allies woven into it as if you had cast the spells yourself. These spells count as double their level toward your tapestry’s capacity.

You can also now weave a new Eldritch Tapestry after both short and long rests, destroying any existing tapestry in the process.
