Base Class: Rogue
Darkness Dragoon is a solitary shadow—an agent of precision, silence, and vengeance. Trained in the ancient and dangerous Dragoon arts, these rogues leap from the void with deadly momentum, guided by instinct, discipline, and duty. While most rogues prefer quick escapes, the Darkness Dragoon controls the battlefield with sudden, overwhelming strikes from above and vanishes before reprisal.
Though often cold and distant, these warriors form deep, unspoken bonds with their companions. Their silence masks devotion, and their shadowed blades fall not for glory—but for the survival of those they guard from the dark.
Draconic Leap
📏 Enhanced Jump
You gain resistance to falling damage.
In addition, when you make a High Jump or Long Jump without a running start, calculate your jump distance as follows:
-
Standing Jump Distance (in feet) = your Acrobatics modifier + Strength modifier, rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5.
Example: Acrobatics +7 and Strength +4 = total 11 → jump distance = 10 feet.
Note: Your maximum jump height is still limited by environmental constraints such as ceilings, magical barriers, or confined spaces. The DM may reduce your jump height or redirect your leap based on available room.
🌀 Aerial Strike (Jump Attack)
Once per turn, you may use your Action to initiate a Draconic Leap:
-
You leap vertically up to your full jump height.
-
You remain airborne until the start of your next turn.
-
While airborne, you are considered out of melee range of most creatures (unless they can fly or have reach).
-
You may still be targeted by ranged attacks and spells.
At the start of your next turn, you descend rapidly toward the battlefield:
-
Choose a landing space within 5 feet of horizontal drift per 10 feet fallen.
(Ex: If you fell 50 feet, you can land up to 25 feet away horizontally.) -
This movement does not consume movement or action.
Then, as part of this ability, you make one melee weapon attack with the following properties:
-
The attack is made with advantage.
-
On a hit, it deals extra weapon damage based on your Dragoon subclass level:
| Dragoon Levels | Extra Damage |
|---|---|
| 1st–4th | +1d6 |
| 5th–8th | +2d6 |
| 9th–12th | +3d6 |
| 13th–16th | +4d6 |
| 17th–20th | +5d6 |
🔼 Dragoon Level Scaling
If you have levels in multiple subclasses or classes with the “Dragoon” tag, your jump distance improves:
-
At 10 combined Dragoon levels: Multiply your jump distance by 5.
-
At 20 combined Dragoon levels: Multiply your jump distance by 10.
Demon Stiletto
3rd-level Darkness Dragoon feature
You strike with the swiftness of a flickering shadow and the precision of a predator. When your blade misses, your instincts and the darkness guide it elsewhere.
🗡️ Mastered Weapons
You gain proficiency with rapiers and shortswords, if you don't already have it. These weapons are considered Mastered Weapons for you, and will interact with other Darkness Dragoon features.
🌒 Shadow Redirect
Once per turn, when you make an attack with a Mastered Weapon and miss, you may immediately redirect the strike—if you are in dim light or darkness:
-
Choose a different creature within 5 feet of the original target.
-
Make a new attack roll against that creature using the same weapon.
This effect does not consume your reaction or bonus action. It does not count as an additional attack for purposes of Two-Weapon Fighting or extra attack sources.
🩸 Subtle Precision
While in dim light or darkness, your Sneak Attack damage is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity.
Draconic Form
9th-level Darkness Dragoon feature
You have learned to awaken the ancient draconic power buried in your blood and shadow. As your body surges with elemental force, spectral wings unfold, your armor becomes scale-plated, and your strikes shimmer with deadly magic.
🔥 Transformation
As a bonus action, you enter your Draconic Form for 1 minute, or until you are incapacitated or end it early (no action required).
You may use this feature once per short or long rest.
While in Draconic Form, you gain the following benefits:
🛡️ Draconic Armor
Your body is sheathed in glowing, magical scale-plate that enhances your armor—but only if you are trained and equipped to handle it.
-
You gain a fixed Armor Class (AC) based on the type of armor you are proficient in and currently wearing:
| Armor Type | Draconic Armor AC |
|---|---|
| Unarmored | 13 + Dexterity modifier |
| Light Armor | 15 + Dexterity modifier |
| Medium Armor | 18 + Dexterity modifier (max +2) |
| Heavy Armor | 21 |
You must be proficient in and wearing the armor type to benefit from its Draconic AC.
If you are not wearing armor or are not proficient with the armor you wear, you gain only the Unarmored AC calculation.
Additionally, while in Dragoon Form, you gain a +1 bonus to all saving throws.
🪽 Winged Mobility
You gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed.
You cannot hover—you must land by the end of your turn or begin falling. If you end your turn in midair without a solid surface below, you fall immediately.
⚔️ Empowered Abilities
While in Draconic Form, your subclass features are enhanced:
-
Shadow Redirect (from Demon Stiletto) can target a creature within 10 feet instead of 5.
-
If the redirected attack hits, it deals bonus necrotic damage equal to your proficiency bonus.
-
Your Sneak Attack damage in dim light or darkness becomes magical necrotic damage.
Demon's Dance
13th-level Darkness Dragoon feature
You become a patient predator—circling from the sky, holding your killing blow until the perfect moment. Your instincts sharpen in flight, allowing you to bend the rules of combat for a single devastating strike.
🎯 Delayed Precision
If you do not use your Sneak Attack during the turn you activate Draconic Leap, you may hold it in reserve.
-
On your next turn, when you land and make the melee weapon attack granted by Draconic Leap, you may apply Sneak Attack to that strike if it would normally qualify.
This Sneak Attack does not count against your limit for that turn—you may still use Sneak Attack again later in the same round if conditions allow.
🩸 Double Strike Potential
You can use Sneak Attack once per turn, as normal.
However, with this feature, it's possible to Sneak Attack twice in the same round:
-
Once at the start of your turn (via held Sneak Attack on your landing strike)
-
Once again later in the same round (e.g., on your regular Action, Reaction, or Ready Attack if conditions are met)
💡 Design Example
Turn 1: You use Draconic Leap. You don’t attack, so you hold Sneak Attack in reserve.
Turn 2 (Start): You land and strike — Sneak Attack applies via Demon’s Dance.
Turn 2 (Normal Action): You dash or disengage, then make another qualifying attack — Sneak Attack applies again.
Draconic Spirit
17th-level Darkness Dragoon feature
You summon the shadowy essence of a draconic guardian bound to your soul—a spectral wyrm born from darkness and ancient power. This spirit is both your mount and protector, a silent sentinel that moves with ethereal grace at your command.
🐉 Spectral Manifestation
As an action, you call forth your Draconic Spirit in an unoccupied space within 30 feet. The spirit manifests as a dragon-shaped apparition, one size category larger than you, its form shimmering with black and violet shadows that flicker like embers in a dying fire.
-
Duration: 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points.
-
Movement: 30 ft. walking speed, 100 ft. flying speed.
-
The spirit shares your initiative count.
-
It cannot take actions other than movement.
-
You or one willing creature can ride the Dragon Spirit (only one rider at a time).
⚔️ Shadow-Bound Vitality
The Draconic Spirit’s resilience reflects your own:
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Hit Points | Equal to 5 × your character level |
| Armor Class (AC) | 16 |
| Saving Throws | Uses your saving throw bonuses |
| Resistances | Necrotic; resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage |
| Immunities | Poison, exhaustion |
| Vulnerabilities | Radiant damage |
-
When reduced to 0 hit points, the spirit fades over 1 minute, allowing any rider to safely dismount.
🦇 Ethereal Flight
The Draconic Spirit moves with uncanny grace through the battlefield, blending shadows and solid ground. Its flying speed grants exceptional mobility but cannot hover—it must land or descend by the end of its turn.
🔥 Empowered Spirit
Once per long rest, when your Draconic Spirit is summoned and you are in Dragoon Form, you may invoke its Empowered Spirit state:
-
The Draconic Spirit becomes fully corporeal and gains the stat block of a dragon with the highest Challenge Rating below your character level.
-
It retains the higher of your flying speed or the dragon stat block’s fly speed.
-
It acts on its own initiative and obeys your verbal commands without requiring your action.
-
It is a loyal ally to you and your companions.
When Draconic Form ends, the Dragon Spirit reverts to its spectral form for the remaining duration or vanishes if its original time expires.
🌑 Flavor Notes
The Draconic Spirit is a shadow-wreathed guardian, a flickering silhouette that moves with silent purpose. Its eyes glow faintly with draconic wisdom, and its presence chills the air as darkness coils around your path. Bound by your will and ancient rites, it offers swift escape, aerial dominance, and an unyielding bond that defies mortal limits.
