Monk
Base Class: Monk

Visual Description of the Fighting Style

  • Ethereal Clones: Monks create ghostly duplicates of themselves during combat, confusing their enemies and overwhelming them with sheer numbers. These clones move in perfect harmony with the monk, making it difficult to discern the original.
  • Reflective Images: Their movements are so fluid and precise that they often leave afterimages, further adding to the confusion of their foes. These afterimages appear as if the monk is in multiple places at once.
  • Illusory Techniques: Monks can create minor illusions to deceive their opponents, making it seem like they are striking from one direction while attacking from another.
  • Adaptive Combat: They have an uncanny ability to observe and learn their opponents' techniques, mimicking their moves and using their own abilities against them.
  • Multiplicative Defense: Monks use their clones and illusions to absorb blows and misdirect attacks, creating a seamless defense that frustrates and confounds their enemies.

Clones

Monks who follow the Path of Reflection can generate clones of varying quality, depending on their level. With limited exceptions, these clones share some base characteristics:

  • While you cannot technically see through the other clone's eyes or communicate telepathically, when the clone disappears either due to death, expiration, or dismissal, you maintain all of the clone's memories.
  • While clones appear with all of your equipment, any objects that leave their possession disappear immediately, reflecting the fleeting nature of material objects and wealth.
  • The clones take action on your initiative

Mirrored Stance

At level 3, as a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to create a mirrored clone of yourself that lasts for 1 minute. The clone appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet and can mimic your actions, excluding those that require ki, such as flurry of blows. The clone has hit points equal to your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier and AC equal to yours.

You can only maintain one of these clones at a time.

When you take the Attack action, your clone can make an attack as well, using your attack bonus and damage, but cannot make ki attacks.

Mirror Image

At level 3 you can spend 2 ki points to cast Mirror Image as an action.

Copy Technique

Starting at level 3 you can choose a technique you observed within a number of days equal to your proficiency bonus and copy it. If you witnessed someone using a weapon, you can gain proficiency with that weapon or that skill. You can perform this technique once per short rest, and it lasts until a long rest. You can not learn spells, or magical abilities in this way, but can mimic natural weapons in some cases, such as bites, claws, or even tail whips, even if you don't have a tail.

To copy a technique you witnessed you must roll a perception check vs a DC equal to 10 + 1 per day since you last saw that technique. If you fail to copy a technique you can not roll to copy that same creature's technique again, unless you witness it happening again. You forget the technique after a long rest.

You should agree upon the mechanics for your newly acquired technique prior to trying to copy it.

Observant

Starting at level 3 you are as observant of the outside world as they are of themselves, and have a heightened sense of perception as a result; you have a +2 to perception checks.

Twin Technique

At level 6 as an action, you can spend 2 ki points to create a clone that lasts for 1 minute. The clone appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you and mimics your actions. The clone's AC is the same as yours, but it's maximum hit points are half of your current hit points.
The clone can make basic attacks, bonus actions, and reactions, but it deals half damage.
When you summon your clone using Twin Technique you can loan the clone some of your ki, and whatever is unspent is returned upon its death, expiration, or dismissal.
If you or your clone drop to 0 hit points while you have an active clone, you can transfer your consciousness to the living one, allowing you to continue fighting. The clone becomes your new body, and your current hit points are set to the level of the clone (up to half of your maximum). You can use this ability once per long rest.
As before, you can only maintain one of these clones at a time.

Replacement

At level 6, as a reaction when you or your clone are hit by an attack, you can spend 2 ki points to swap places with one of your clones within 30 feet, causing the attack to target the clone instead. The clone must be within 30 feet of you and have a clear path to you.

A Keen Eye

At level 6, after observing an enemy for one round you understand their technique well enough that you can force them to re-roll an attack that hit you, and take the lower of the two rolls. You can use this skill a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus, resetting after a long rest.

Mirror Army

At level 11 you can create up to four clones at the same time by spending 5 ki points. These clones follow the same rules as Twin Technique.

Improved Replacement

At level 11 as a reaction to being attacked, you can switch places with one of your clones, causing the attack to target the clone instead. The clone must be within 30 feet of you. You can use this skill a number of times per day equal to your proficiency bonus, resetting after a long rest.

Deep Introspection

At level 17, as an action, you can spend 6 ki points to create a perfect duplicate of yourself. This clone has your full hit points and can use all of your abilities, including ki-based ones. The clone lasts for 10 minutes or until it drops to 0 hit points. It otherwise follows the same rules as Twin Technique.
