Base Class: Ranger
You use all your abilities to track down colossal foe. On land, high in the sky or deep in the sea, you're a Monster Hunter made to kill giant creatures who menace the ecosystem.
All the traits offer by this subclass revolve around marked enemy and the Hunter's Mark spell. More damage and combat focus, it still had room for good role playing potential. For this subclass, you could be a sailor paid to protect the crew from monsters, a guardian of a ancient grove who could not tame the wildness around them or even a simple hunter taking high risks, high rewards mission in killing gigantic foes. In any case, you're built to fight colossus.
Focus Mode
Using your keen senses, you start noticing many flaws in the creatures defense you're up against. Whenever you attack a creatures marked by your Hunter's Mark, if it’s missing any of its Hit Points, you can inflict 1d4 damage of the damage type dealt and wound the target. At the start of each of the wounded creature's turns, it takes 1 slashing damage for each time you've wounded it and it can then make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw, ending the effect of all such wounds on itself on a success. Alternatively, the wounded creature, or a creature within 5 feet of it, can use an action to make a DC 15 Wisdom (Medicine) check, ending the effect of such wounds on it on a success. You can use this once per turn.
Hunter’s Knowledge
You're used to stalk and hunt a variety of monsters, you learn some of their habits pretty quickly. While a creature is marked by your Hunter's Mark, you know their Immunities, Resistances, or Vulnerabilities. In addition, once per short rest, you can tweak one of the monster Resistance to make it take normal damage to this type until the beginning of it's next turn.
Pattern-seeking Privilege
Observation and memory make a good pair. At the beginning of your turn and if you concentrate on Hunter's Mark, you gain one effect against the creature. They're cumulative and obtained in the following order:
- You gain +1 for your attacks roles and damages made with your weapons.
- You passively benefit of the Dodge action against the marked creature attacks.
- You force the marked creature to subtract 1d4 to all of it's attacks made against you.
When you change the target of the spell, you restart the progression and lost the cumulative effect.
Special Grade Hunter
Renowned and mighty, your experience in slaying giant monsters paid off. You gain proficiency in Intimidation checks, double it if you already have it. In addition, for an action, you can try to afraid the creature marked by your Hunter's Mark. It must perform a Wisdom saving throw, the DC is 8 + Intimidation + your proficiency. On a fail save, the creature is frightened by you for 1 minute. It can repeat the save at the beginning of it's turn, ending the effect on a success and becoming immune to it for the next 24 hours.
Apex Hunter
No predator is strong enough to take you down on its own. All the following traits apply when the creature marked by your Hunter's Mark as no allies in a 10 feet radius around it:
- You can re-roll damage dices if they land on a 1.
- The creature can't make opportunity attacks against you.
- You always know where is the marked creature, even if it's invisible. If she leave the plan, you know the plan but lost it's position.
