Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who follow the path of the Drunken Monk embrace the chaotic and erratic nature of combat, drawing inspiration from the unpredictable movements of a drunken brawler. Their fighting style is as much about confusion and deception as it is about power and skill. Drunken Monks rely on the element of surprise, using their bodies in unorthodox ways that leave enemies guessing and off-balance. Despite their chaotic nature, their unorthodox combat technique is deceptively effective, blending fluid motion with deadly strikes.

The Drunken Monk’s way teaches not only the physicality of combat but also the spiritual resilience of being able to rise above adversity, no matter how much the odds may be stacked against them. As they grow in power, they gain the ability to shrug off injuries, move with unparalleled fluidity, and make their attacks seem impossible to predict.

Monks who walk this path are often seen as eccentric, laughing in the face of danger or luring opponents into a false sense of security, only to strike when their enemies least expect it. Their fighting style is a combination of art, improvisation, and survival, rooted in the philosophy that life itself is full of unpredictable moments, and only those who can dance through them will truly thrive.

Drunken Stance

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn to adopt a unique fighting style that blends the serenity of your martial training with the erratic, unpredictable movements of a drunkard.

  • Drunken Dodge: As a bonus action, you can enter a "Drunken Stance" for 1 minute. While in this stance, your movement becomes unpredictable. Any creature that attacks you has disadvantage on their attack rolls until the start of your next turn. Additionally, when you take damage from a melee attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
  • Unpredictable Movement: You gain advantage on Acrobatics checks and can use your Dexterity modifier for Strength (Athletics) checks when performing certain actions like grappling or breaking free.

Spirited Swing

Your erratic style allows you to harness the power of your swaying movements, making your attacks difficult to anticipate.

  • Tipsy Strikes: When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can choose to make a single attack with advantage if you are within 5 feet of a creature. After this attack, your movement speed increases by 10 feet until the end of the turn, and the creature you hit has disadvantage on its next attack roll against you before the end of its next turn.
  • Swaying Form: If you take the Dash action, you can move through the space of creatures without provoking opportunity attacks until the end of your turn.

Drunken Resilience

You have learned to drink away the pain, allowing you to recover from wounds with surprising speed.

  • Booze-fueled Recovery: When you are reduced to half your hit points or fewer, you can use your bonus action to heal a number of hit points equal to twice your monk level. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all expended uses after a long rest.
  • Hangover: At the start of each of your turns, you must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 10 + the damage you took on the last turn). On a failure, you are considered "hungover" until the start of your next turn, and you have disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks for that turn. On a success, you feel a surge of clarity, and you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on a creature’s attack against you before the end of their turn.

Master of the Drunken Dance

At 17th level, your combat style becomes an art of fluidity and chaos, as you move and fight like no one expects.

  • Drunken Master: As a bonus action, you can enter your Drunken Dance for 1 minute. During this time, whenever you use your Step of the Wind, you can choose to make an additional unarmed strike as part of the bonus action. Additionally, when you are hit by a melee attack, you can use your reaction to force the attacker to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier). On a failure, the attacker suffers disadvantage on their next attack roll.
  • Unstoppable: While in your Drunken Dance, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier at the start of each of your turns. If you drop to 0 hit points while in your Drunken Dance, you can use your reaction to remain standing with 1 hit point and immediately make an unarmed strike as a part of the same reaction. You can use this feature once per long rest.
