Base Class: Paladin
Paladins of the Oath of the Dragon are champions of ancient draconic bloodlines. By taking this oath, they forge a sacred bond with the essence of a dragon, becoming the embodiment of its strength and majesty on the battlefield. Their power manifests through mighty strikes, protective auras, and a progressive ascension toward draconic apotheosis.
Level 3: Draconic Heritage & Draconic Smite
Choice of Dragon
When you take this oath, you must choose a type of dragon, which determines your elemental abilities. Your choice affects several of your traits and powers throughout your progression.
| Dragon Type | Damage Type | Saving Throw | Breath (Shape & Range) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red / Brass | Fire | DEX | 15 ft. cone |
| White / Silver | Cold | CON | 15 ft. cone |
| Black / Copper | Acid | DEX | 30 ft. line |
| Blue / Bronze | Lightning | DEX | 30 ft. line |
| Green | Poison | CON | 15 ft. cone |
Channel Divinity – Draconic Smite
When you hit a creature with Divine Smite, you can expend your Channel Divinity to apply an additional effect of your choice. The targeted creature must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus) or suffer one of the following effects:
-
Draconic Slowness:
-
On a failed save, the creature is affected as if by the Slow spell until the end of your next turn.
-
It can only take one action or one attack, and its speed is halved.
-
-
Draconic Roar:
-
On a failed save, the creature is pushed 30 feet away and is knocked prone.
-
On a success, it is pushed 15 feet away.
-
-
Draconic Paralysis:
-
On a failed save, the creature is incapacitated until the end of your next turn, unable to attack or take offensive actions.
-
-
Scale Breaker:
-
On a failed save, the creature suffers disadvantage on Strength-based attack rolls and saving throws for 1 minute.
-
All damage it deals is reduced by 3 points.
-
The creature can remake the saving throw at the end of each of its turns to end this effect.
-
Level 7: Aura of Draconic Heritage
-
You and your allies within the aura gain resistance to the damage type associated with your dragon (fire, cold, acid, lightning, or poison).
Level 15: Draconic Symbiosis
You can fuse your strength with that of your draconic essence, gaining draconic traits for 10 minutes (1x per long rest). During this time, you gain:
-
Flight speed: 30 feet.
-
Immunity to your dragon's damage type.
-
Draconic Breath (Recharge 6):
-
A breath attack based on your dragon, either 15 feet in a line or 30 feet in a cone, dealing 6d8 elemental damage (DC = 8 + PB + Cha, half damage on a success).
-
-
Draconic Strike:
-
When you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can deal extra elemental damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
-
Level 20: Draconic Ascendancy
You reach the pinnacle of your draconic transformation. Once per long rest, you can use an action to become an adult dragon for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:
-
Size: Huge (5m tall).
-
AC: You gain a bonus to your AC equal to your Charisma modifier, reflecting the magical power of your draconic lineage.
-
Hit Points: You gain temporary hit points equal to 4 times your Paladin level.
-
Flight: 60 feet.
Attacks in Dragon Form
-
Bite (once per turn): 4d8 + Str of elemental damage.
-
Claws: 2d6 + Str.
-
Ultimate Breath:
-
As a magical action, you can expend a spell slot to unleash a breath attack according to your dragon type, either 25 feet in a line or 40 feet in a cone.
-
This breath deals 2d8 elemental damage multiplied by the spell slot level used (DC = 8 + PB + Cha, half damage on a success).
-
If the spell slot used is level 3 or higher, the breath ignores elemental resistances.
-
When using your breath attack, you can expend a Channel Divinity to apply Draconic Smite effects.
-
Additionally, you are immune to the Frightened condition and retain all your Paladin abilities.
