Base Class: Monk
Most monks across the realms spend their days in quiet meditation on life, the soul, and the energies that unite all things. Most monks have also never had a chair broken over their head or used their own broken teeth as improvised weapons, and are “all too busy pondering the sticks up their butts,” according to one scholar of the Way of Grit.
Rather than the unity of mind and body that many monastic traditions strive for, the techniques of the Way of Grit support an almost purely physical approach to training and combat – the central thesis of which can be summarized by the famous mantra often uttered by the tradition’s first practitioner: “**** you. Die mad.”
No Rules in a Street Fight.
Starting at 3rd level, you develop a mastery of techniques that others may deem “dishonorable,” but what use is honor when you’re bareknuckle boxing a Demilich? Once per turn, when you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can use one of the following techniques against that target:
Throw Elbow. You can make an additional unarmed strike against that creature. This additional unarmed strike does not add your ability modifier to the damage, and its damage die drops one tier in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table (minimum of a d4).
Eye Gouge. The creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier) or be blinded until the end of its next turn. The creature must have eyes or a similar seeing apparatus, or this technique has no effect.
Throat Punch. The creature must make a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier). On a failure, the creature is unable to speak or cast spells with a Verbal component, and has disadvantage on Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration on a spell for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending these effects on a success.
Crotch Shot. The creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier) or their movement speed is reduced to 0 until the end of their next turn.
Just Getting Warmed Up
Once per Short Rest, if you start your turn with fewer hit points than half your hit point maximum, you regain ki points equal to half the maximum value of your martial arts die.
Be Strong, Hit Stuff
Starting at 6th level, you add both your Strength and your Dexterity modifier to the damage dealt by your unarmed strikes and melee attacks with monk weapons.
Fuck Around and Find Out
If someone insists on making poor choices like attacking you and your friends, it’s up to you to teach them the stupidity of their ways. When a creature within 5 feet of you misses you or an ally within 5 feet of you with a melee attack, you can expend 1 ki point to use one of the following reactions against the attacking creature:
Break Grip. The creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier) or drop the weapon they just used. If you have two free hands, you can pick up the weapon as a part of this reaction.
Redirect Attack. You cause the triggering attack to target a different creature within 5 feet of you, using the same attack roll against the new target’s AC.
Body Slam. The creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier) or be either knocked prone or pushed 5 feet away from, provided the creature is no more than one size larger than you.
Strike Back. You make an unarmed strike against the creature.
That All You Got?
Beginning at 11th level, you can survive nearly anything through sheer willpower. When you would be reduced to 0 hit points, you can expend 1 ki point (no action required) to drop to 1 hit point instead.
Alright, Who's Next?
At 17th level, you’ve become a truly legendary brawler, able to face down giants and armies alike with nothing but the hands the gods gave you. Your hit point maximum increases by twice your monk level. In addition, whenever you reduce an opponent to 0 hp you regain ki points equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
