Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Prerequisite: You must choose Two-Weapon Fighting as your fighting style feat choice at level 2.

A Hunter subclass that specializes in a flurry of dual-wielding attacks, unlocking their training and focus to be a true force to be reckoned with. This Hunter has spent their career hunting anything and everything, able to research the strength and vulnerabilities of various monsters across the realms. A creature marked to be hunted by a Twinblade Hunter is quick to learn what a true threat looks like, as the Hunter becomes a demonic flurry of pain.

Level 3: Focused Strikes

The fervor with which you tackle every hunt becomes evident in the focus of your melee strikes. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon that has the Light and Finesse features you gain a point of Hunter's Focus. You may accumulate a maximum amount of Hunter's Focus equal to your Proficiency bonus.

Once per turn when you would miss with a weapon attack, you may add a bonus to that attack roll equal to your accumulated Hunter's Focus. If you add your Hunter's Focus to an attack roll and the attack hits, it does not give you a point of Hunter's Focus.

Level 7: Proper Research

You may spend time consulting your notes on various monsters of the Realms to find the best means to take down any foe. If you have seen the target of your research or know the name of the monster in question you may take ten minutes to make a Nature check with a DC according to the monster's rarity for the region according to the chart below.

Monster Regional rarity Nature Check DC
Common In The Region 10
Uncommon Monthly Sightings 14
Only Rare Yearly Sightings 18
Very Rarely Ever Seen 22
A Monster of Legend 26

Succeeding at this Nature check at the end of your research lets you know one damage type your target is vulnerable to. If the target has no damage vulnerabilities, it instead lets you know one type that it is not resistant to. For every 5 you exceed the DC you learn another damage vulnerability, damage resistance, one kind of Immunity the monster may have.

Knowing this information allows you to change the damage type of your Hunter's Mark to the discovered damage vulnerability type.

Level 7: Close the Distance

When you take the attack action on your turn you may substitute one of your attacks to launch a grappling hook up to 30 feet at your target . If you hit with the attack you may reel yourself in to land in an open space adjacent to the hooked target. A successful hit with this grappling hook attack gives you a point of Hunter's Focus. If you have a Hunter's Slinger you may use the Slinger's ranges instead.

At level 15 or higher, when you are in Archdemon Mode and successfully use the grappling hook attack to close the distance to a monster, you gain a number of additional attacks based on the size of the target. For each size category above Medium you add one extra attack. (Large is one extra, Huge is two extra, etc.)

Level 11: Demon Mode

Your focus in combat has been honed into a weapon unto itself. While your Hunter's Focus is at it's maximum value you gain the following benefits:

  • Melee attacks you make with a weapon that has the Light and Finesse features have their critical hit range increased by 1.
  • Your Extra Attack feature now allows you to attack three times instead of twice whenever you take the attack action on your turn, as long as you are only using weapons with the Light and Finesse features.

Level 15: Archdemon

You have become a terrifying force that creatures fear. When you set your sights on a hunting target, you are that creature's apex predator.

While in Demon Mode, as part of taking an attack action on your turn you may declare entering Archdemon Mode. Doing so adds your current Hunter's Focus value to attack and damage rolls you make until the end of your turn, and if you attack a creature under the effect of your Hunter's Mark all of your damage is converted into the same damage type dealt by your Hunter's Mark. Additionally, when in Archdemon Mode, the number of damage dice dealt by your Hunter's Mark increases by 1.

At the end of your turn after entering Archdemon mode, your Hunter's Focus pool is reduced to 0.
