Base Class: Barbarian
“They say the wolf howls only when the end is near. But I’ve known the silence between the breaths—the moment before the scream, the heartbeat before the blade. The Black Howl doesn’t just hunt… it reminds the world what it means to be prey.”
— Grandma Hood, Last Fang of the Silver Moon whispering to a young hunter by the fire
Deathmask Transformation
When you rage:
- Your body partially transforms—eyes glow, claws emerge.
- Your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 slashing damage and count as Strength-based.
- You gain Darkvision 60 ft (or +30 ft if you already have it).
- Choose one creature within 30 ft. It must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or become Haunted until your rage ends:
Haunted creatures have disadvantage on attack rolls against creatures other than you, and disadvantage on saving throws vs fear.
Predator’s Focus
- Gain advantage on Perception and Survival checks using hearing/smell.
- While raging, your attacks deal extra psychic damage equal to your Rage Damage Bonus against:
- Creatures that are frightened, or
- Creatures below half their hit point maximum.
- When you reduce a creature to 0 HP, one creature within 30 ft that can hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of its next turn.
Inevitable Hunt
As a bonus action, mark one creature within 60 feet. For 1 minute or until it dies:
- You know its location at all times.
- You have advantage on opportunity attacks against it.
- Once per turn, when you hit it, it must make a Constitution saving throw or be frightened until the start of your next turn.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Howl of the End
While raging, you emit a 30-foot aura of dread:
- Creatures frightened of you that start their turn in the aura take 2d6 psychic damage and can’t take reactions that turn.
- Allies in the aura gain advantage on death saving throws and can’t be frightened.
Once per long rest, if you’re reduced to 0 HP while raging, you drop to 1 HP instead and unleash the Howl of the End:
- All enemies within 60 feet who can hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw.
- On a failure: Frightened for 1 minute.
- Fail by 5 or more: Paralyzed until the end of their next turn.
