Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Grains of Power

At 1st level, when you choose this subclass, you forge a pact with Zahlkthar, the Demon of Sand, offering fragments of your own life force in exchange for magical power.

You gain the ability to spend hit points to enhance your spells. When casting a warlock spell, you may sacrifice up to twice your warlock level in hit points. The spell deals additional force or necrotic damage equal to the hit points lost (your choice when casting).

If the spell already deals damage, add this as extra damage of the chosen type. If the spell doesn't deal damage, the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take the damage anyway, as Zahlkthar’s curse lashes out at them.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Power, like sand, slips through mortal fingers—but you, child of the dunes, have learned to bleed for it.

Crimson Bloom

When you use your Grains of Power feature to empower a spell by sacrificing hit points, you can cause arcane sand to burst from your body.

Each creature of your choice within 5 feet of you must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or take 1d4 necrotic damage and have disadvantage on their next attack roll before the end of their next turn.

The damage increases to:

  • 1d6 at Warlock level 5

  • 1d8 at Warlock level 11

  • 1d10 at Warlock level 17

This effect can only be activated once per turn.

"Let them come... the desert always blooms in blood."
