Base Class: Sorcerer
Despite them seemingly lacking sorcerous power, Paper Magicians often use this incorrect stereotype to their an advantage, although they are able to use some very basic sorcer spells (up to level 2). Often befriending cityfolk, thieves and merchants due to their adept manipulation of materials Paper Magicians often have many connections, and are more social than most other sorcerers.
They are useful allies against other humanoids due to them being able to turn their own weapons, armour and items against their wielders. Most Paper Magicians act on the battlefield by hindering and distracting foes from mid-range or afar never usually engaging in close-quarter, melee combat unless absolutely necessary. They can also use their materials for a defensive or supportive role, using prepared materials, items around a battlefield or even a foe's own gear. Paper Magicians with more potent abilities are able to create huge barricades, create platforms that rise to lift allies or themselves out of danger and even vanquish foes solely with their own gear.
Unless the Paper Magician is a dragonborn, most usually have a wild magic sorcerous origin.
Much like other sorcerers their motivations for adventure can be ambiguous, but despite their seeming ambiguity of alignment they are immensely flexible allies... when there are materials around.
Self-confinement
As an action you can spend 2 sorcerer points to target one enemy in sight, if they are wearing armour made by humanoids they lose their dexterity bonus to AC and take unarmed damage each turn if they fail a dexterity check (DC 8 + proficiency + charisma). This effect ends if they take the armour off (dexterity check of the same type <--) or when the Paper Magician changes target or focus.
As an action you can spend 2 sorcerer points to target one enemy in sight, if they are holding any weapon made by humanoids they lose the attack bonus associated with that weapon (the weapon's damage type is changed to bludgeoning until this affect ends due to it being blunted if the damage type is anything other than bludgeoning). The weapon itself can be returned to its original state with a charisma check by the Paper Magician who cast the spell (DC 8 + proficiency + charisma), otherwise the weapon remains altered indefinitely.
As an action you can spend 2 sorcerer points to target one item on an enemy's person in sight, that item can be summoned towards the Paper Magician and (unless stated otherwise) can be used at it's most basic level, unless the Paper Magician has a certain affinity with that item type.
At 3rd level the sorcerer discovers a new affinity for magical items. All abilities described above now also apply to magical items made by humanoids as well.
Material Manipulation
As an action you can spend 1 sorcery point an telekinetically control a single item or piece of material.
The amount of basic material you can manipulate can be gauged by a charisma check of 1d12 doubled (add an extra dice with each level)
As an action you can spend an extra sorcery point to change that raw item into something else e.g. a weapon. The number of sorcery points expended rises with the amount of raw material changed.
Material Affinity
Starting at 6th level, when you manipulate/use an item that is made from the one material type of your choice, you can add your Charisma modifier to one damage roll for that spell. At the same time, you can spend 1 sorcery point to gain resistance to damage from items made with that material.
Superficial Flight
At 14th level you gain the ability to create pillars that move under you and raise you up as long as there is solid ground beneath you, you are also able to create a static pair of wings that can be used to glide if there is no solid ground underneath you.
Your speed is equal to your normal speed and you need raw materials or items that can be used. Any items used lose their sharpness, defence or their ability is weakened if you fail a charisma saving throw (changes depending on the length used and item power).
Construct Creation
At 18th level the Paper Magician is able to create a construct and enchant it with a certain purpose. It's size and potency depend on both the amount of expended materials/items used and the amount of sorcery points used.
e.g. create a shield guardian for 3 sorcery points and [ ] of enchanted metal and wood.
