Tenets of the Shieldbearer

Paladins who swear the Oath of the Shieldbearer commit themselves to defense, resilience, and protection above all else. They act as living bulwarks on the battlefield, interposing themselves between danger and the innocent. Whether in a shield wall or holding the line alone, these paladins are steadfast symbols of hope and security.

  • Protection – I will put myself between danger and those I am sworn to protect, no matter the cost.

  • Vigilance – I will remain ever-watchful, prepared to defend against threats at any moment.

  • Endurance – I will endure hardship and suffering without faltering, holding fast in the face of adversity.

  • Sacrifice – I will sacrifice my own well-being for the safety of others, even if it costs me everything.

Shield of Ages

As an bonus-action, you conjure an ancient celestial barrier around you for 1 minute. While active:

You and all allies within 30 feet gain +2 AC.

Each creature of your choice in that area also gains advantage on all saving throws.

You can automatically succeed on one saving throw per round (no action required).

Enemies that target allies within your aura must make a Wisdom saving throw or suffer disadvantage on their attacks for that turn.

You can use this one time per short rest.

Channel Divinity

    Interpose Shield
    As a reaction when an ally within 10 feet is attacked, you can impose disadvantage on the attack roll. If the attack still hits, you can choose to take the damage instead of the target, if you are able to do so.

    Bulwark of Faith
    As a bonusaction, you call upon your divine strength to fortify your allies. For 1 minute, all allies within 20 feet gain +2 AC and have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Level 7: Aura of Steadfastness

Starting at 7th level, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you cannot have their movement speed reduced by difficult terrain, magical effects, or abilities that would lower their speed (unless they are restrained or grappled).

Additionally, if an effect would forcibly move an ally within your aura (such as being pushed, pulled, or teleported unwillingly), you can use your reaction to reduce the distance moved by half.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Focus: protects allies from battlefield control effects and forced movement.

Level 15: Defender’s Step

When a creature within 30 feet of you attacks an ally, you can use your reaction to swap places with the ally, interposing yourself before the attack resolves. The triggering attack is then made against you instead.

Additionally, when you use your Lay on Hands feature on another creature, you can choose to transfer one condition affecting them (such as poisoned, blinded, or charmed) to yourself, if you are capable of being affected by it.
