Base Class: Artificer
The Tactical Mimic is an Artificer who masters the art of replication. Through rigorous observation and analysis, you reverse-engineer the abilities of others—spells, class features, or magic item effects—and temporarily integrate them into your modular systems. You’re not a generalist by design, but a battlefield tactician who shifts forms to meet every challenge with stolen precision. Where others rely on raw power, you rely on information, timing, and adaptability.
Combat Emulator
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to imitate the combat features of nearby allies.
Mimicry Reaction: When a creature you can see uses a class feature (not a spell) that has a visible or audible effect (e.g., Sneak Attack, Second Wind, Bardic Inspiration), you can use your reaction to “record” that feature.
You can use the Mimicked Feature once on a later turn within the next minute. If not used, it expires.
You follow the same usage limits and action economy (e.g., action, bonus action). Use your Intelligence modifier in place of class-based modifiers if required.
You can mimic one feature at a time. Mimicked features vanish after use or expiration.
You also gain proficiency in Performance or with a Disguise Kit (your choice).
Code Extraction
At 5th level,y ou gain the ability to replicate a feature, spell, or magic item effect during a rest.
During a short or long rest, spend 1 hour analyzing either an ally or a magic item. Choose one of the following options based on your Modular Focus:
Tactical Feature Core
-
Choose one class feature of 5th level or lower (e.g., Fighting Style, Rage, Cunning Action).
-
You may use that feature normally for the next 24h.
-
You can't regain uses—once it’s used up, you must re-copy it.
-
You can store only one feature at a time. Copying another replaces the old one.
-
Features requiring class resources (e.g., Bardic Inspiration, Ki) grant you uses equal to your proficiency bonus.
Spell Echo Core
-
Choose a spell of 5th level or lower known to an allied creature.
-
You may cast the spell once in the next 24h without expending a spell slot.
-
Only one spell may be stored at a time.
Artifact Interface Core
-
Copy one magical effect from a magic item.
-
You may use it a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus over the next 24h.
-
Once used up, it must be re-copied.
Mimic Suite
At 9th level, you can now store more than one mimicry using Code Extraction.
Tactical Feature Core
-
You can store two features from two different classes.
-
During a short rest, you may swap out one or both.
-
Mimicry Reaction storage now lasts 10 minutes instead of 1.
Spell Echo Core
-
You can store two spells.
-
Both must have been observed in the past 24h.
-
You can cast either spell once without a spell slot.
-
If you cast both in the same round, roll a d6. On an odd number, you can't store spells again until your next short rest (Echo Disruption).
Artifact Interface Core
-
You may store two item effects.
-
You may use both once each within the next 12h.
-
You may activate one as a bonus action if the item allowed bonus action use.
-
If both are used in the same turn, gain 1 level of System Strain: Until your next turn, you have disadvantage on Constitution saving throws.
Coordinated Protocols
At 15th level, you refine your systems for tactical optimization.
Tactical Feature Core
-
Maintain a list of up to 4 known class features you’ve copied in the past. You can only have 2 of them active at the same time.
-
Swapping an active feature with one from your list takes 1 uninterrupted minute of concentration (not a rest).
-
Think of this as a “loadout” mechanic.
Spell Echo Core
-
One stored spell becomes permanently stored and doesn't count against your limit.
-
You may cast it once per short rest without expending a slot.
-
Once per long rest, when reduced to 0 HP, you may cast it as a reaction.
Artifact Interface Core
-
When you and an ally use a magic item in the same turn, you may activate both of your stored item effects as a single action, without gaining System Strain.
-
The second effect gains +1 to save DC or +2 to hit.
- You both have advantage on your use of your magic item while attacking together.
Modular Focus
At 5th level, you refine your mimicry to specialize in one domain. Choose one of the following three mimic types. This choice replaces Combat Emulator and cannot be changed later.
Spell Echo Core
You focus on replicating spells cast by others.
-
When you see a creature cast a spell of 1st–5th level, you may use your reaction to store that spell in your mimicry core.
-
The spell remains stored for 10 minutes. You may cast it once without expending a spell slot, using your Intelligence as your spellcasting ability.
-
You must provide components unless you have tools or a spellcasting focus.
-
Rituals and spells with casting time longer than 1 action/bonus action cannot be copied.
-
Spells are cast at their base level.
-
Only one spell may be stored at a time.
Tactical Feature Core
You focus on replicating class features as per the default Combat Emulator rules.
-
Mimicry now includes passive features (e.g., Danger Sense, Evasion) if they have a perceivable trigger or mechanical effect.
Artifact Interface Core
You specialize in replicating effects of magic items you observe.
-
When a creature within 30 feet uses a magic item, you may use your reaction to record the effect.
-
You can mimic the effect once within the next hour. It functions as if you used the item (without expending charges or consumables).
-
You must meet item-specific requirements (e.g., class restrictions).
-
Only one magic item effect may be stored at a time.
-
If no item was observed in the past 24h, you may instead choose a consumed magical consumable (e.g., potion, scroll) you used and replicate its effect.
