Base Class: Bard
Dirgesingers and elegists compose songs and poetry to lament their lost loved ones and achieve solace. Bards of the College of Mourning seek catharsis for both themselves and those who’ve met their ends prematurely. Their philosophy on necromancy views controlled reanimation as a means of helping the dead satisfy their lingering regrets, whether it be pitting them against their murderer or allowing them one final dance. The art that bards of mourning practice speaks so keenly to the dead, it can stir emotions in them once thought long perished.
Dirgesong
When you join the College of Mourning at 3rd level, your spells ignore an Undead creature’s Resistance to Psychic damage. If they were immune to the Charmed or the Frightened condition, they instead must make their saving throw against it with Advantage, suffering from the effects normally on a failure. If the target was humanoid in their past life, they become susceptible to your spells that target humanoids such as Charm Person.
In addition, if you use your Bardic Inspiration feature, you can choose to force a target within 60 feet to make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, they become Frightened of you until the end of their next turn. A creature frightened in this way must spend its turns trying to move as far away from you as it can, and it can't willingly move to a space within 30 feet of you. For its action, it can use only the Dash action or try to escape from an effect that prevents it from moving. If there's nowhere to move, the creature can use the Dodge action.
Awaken the Grave
At 3rd level, your craft restores a fragment of a spirit in a cadaver. As a Bonus Action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to animate an intact corpse within 60 feet of you. Roll the Bardic Inspiration die. It regains Hit Points equal to the number rolled plus your Performance modifier. The creature’s Challenge Rating must be equal to or less than your level.
In combat, the creature’s turn comes immediately after yours. It becomes Undead, gains Immunity to Poison damage and being Poisoned, obeys your mental commands, and no longer has the Multiattack action, the ability to cast spells, or legendary actions or legendary resistance.
You can use this feature to animate no more than one corpse at a time. If you awaken a second corpse while the first is still active, the first one falls dead. At 14th level, you can animate a second corpse in this way. If you animate a third corpse while the two are awakened, the first falls dead.
Haunting Elegy
By 6th level, your art speaks uncannily to the mortal condition, filling those who listen with dread. You can cast Bane without expending a spell slot. Any creature Frightened by you automatically fails its saving throw against the Bane spell you cast with this feature.
You can use this feature as many times per day equal to your Charisma modifier.
Peerless Skill
Starting at 14th level, when you make an ability check, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration. Roll a Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to your ability check. You can choose to do so after you roll the die for the ability check, but before the DM tells you whether you succeed or fail.
