Level 3: Set Game
3nd-level Chess Wizard feature
As a Magic Action, you can link yourself to a number of friendly creatures equal to your intelligence modifier + half of your proficiency bonus, rounded down. Creatures linked in this way are considered “Pieces.” For each of these Pieces, as long as you are on the same plane of existence, you can see through their senses, and as long as you are within 500 ft of each other, can cast spells as if you were in their space. However, spells cast in this way cannot deal direct damage upon casting (Ex. Cone of Cold, Spirit Guardians, or Wall of Fire). The spells can deal damage after they are successfully cast (Ex. Spike Growth, Hunger of Hadar). Additionally, Self target spells (for example, shield) cannot be cast through a Piece, and spells with a range other than touch have half, rounded down, normal range (for example, haste has a range of 30 normally, 15 when cast through a Piece), when cast through Piece. This link can be done an amount of times equal to your intelligence modifier per long rest, and when a Piece gets killed, or dropped to 0 health points, the link to them ends. You can only cast a leveled spell through a piece once per round
Additionally, pieces cannot change to a different piece even if completely ended. This ability also does not affect any other chess mage.
- While linked, all of your pieces are considered "Pawns" to start out with.
- When you cast a leveled spell through a pawn, it can use its reaction to move an amount equal to five times the level of the spell, to a maximum of 20 feet, and opportunity attacks made against them are rolled with disadvantage.

- Knight - When you cast a leveled spell through this creature, it can move up to half its movement speed, ignoring space occupied by creatures and opportunity attacks, as a reaction.
- Bishop - When you cast a leveled spell through this creature, you may use your reaction to teleport them up to 15 feet directly towards or away from another creature, and remove one negative condition from them.
Level 10: Tactical Positioning
10th-level Chess Wizard feature
As a bonus action, you can choose one hostile creature to make a wisdom save against your wizard save DC, that is between you or a linked creature and another hostile creature (in a straight line), and get one of two consequences on a failed save, depending on the CR difference.
- Pin - If the chosen hostile creature has a CR equal to or lower than the second hostile creature, you set all of their movement speeds to 0
- Skewer - If the chosen hostile creature has a CR above the second hostile creature, their movement speeds are all cut in half, rounded down
Level 14: Grand Promotion
14th-level Chess Wizard feature
When creating your pieces, you become an eligible piece, and become either the king or the queen. In addition, another creature of your choice is promoted to a rook.
- King - Spells that take up a specified area, such as Wall of Fire, last for 1d4 rounds after you lose concentration on them. If you lose concentration on a spell, your speed is reduced to 5ft on your next turn.
- Queen - You gain a flight speed of 45ft, the ability to hover,
- Rook - At the start of your turn, this creature may use its reaction to move up to its full speed, and cast a cantrip, or make a single weapon attack
