Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Being connected by a bond stronger than any, Barbarians who follow the Path of the Tattooed Summoner have their lives intertwined with beasts of many different natures. Befriending beasts and absorbing them into their body, the beasts turns into ink and takes shape on the Barbarian's skin. Bonded through hardship, the Barbarian and the beast must overcome many adversities in this world to become stronger.

Bonus Proficiency

Whenever you take this subclass, you gain proficiency in the Animal Handling skill.

Summoning

When starting this path at level 3, you find that you can create a connection with a beast. As a 1 minute ritual, you can place your hand on a beast that is not hostile towards you and that is no larger than one size larger than you. Make a Wisdom (Animal Handling) check with the DC being 10 + the CR rounded down of the beast. On a success, the beast is absorbed into you and appears as a tattoo on your body in a place of your choosing.

When you rage, you choose a beast that you have connected with and summon it beside you. As a bonus action, your summoned beast can make one attack action as you command it. Your summoned beast deals rage damage upon hitting a creature with an attack and they have advantage on Strength checks and saving throws. When the creature drops to zero hit points, it is absorbed back into your skin. If your rage ends by being knocked unconscious or any other premature way, the summoned beast is absorbed back into your skin. If you choose to end your rage, you can keep your summoned creature summoned for up to one hour. If you rage again, the beast is brought back to your skin.

You are able to have one beast absorbed at level 3, two at level 5, three at level 7, four at level 9, five at level 11, six at level 14, seven at level 17, and eight at level 20.

Once you summon a beast, you cannot summon it again until you’ve taken a long rest.

Monstrous Summonings

Starting at level 6, you can now absorb monstrosities into your skin as a tattoo. The monstrosity, however, must be have a CR half your level or lower (rounded up). Your normal summons also gain the following effects:

  • If your summoned creature has a multiattack action, it can take that instead of the single attack action
  • The beast’s attacks now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage
  • Your summoned creature gains temp HP equal to your CON modifier + Proficiency bonus when they are summoned

Animal Instinct

At level 10, you can choose one ability of a beast or monstrosity that you have tattooed on you to apply to yourself. For example, if you have a boar, you can choose to acquire Charge or Relentless. You can choose to change this ability after a short or long rest.

Revenge

At level 10, if your beast or monstrosity is killed by an enemy within 30 feet of you, you can use your reaction to move to the enemy and take a full round of attacks against the enemy.

Chimeric Form

Starting at 14th level, when you rage you can choose to take on your Chimeric Form rather than summoning a beast. When in your Chimeric Form, you gain the following effects:

  • You gain all innate abilities of the creatures or monstrosities you have bonded with
  • You gain all resistances, immunities, vulnerabilities, and senses of your bonded creatures
  • Your movement speed is doubled
  • You cannot summon a creature while in this form
  • You take on minor features of your bonded creatures (you do not grow extra limbs or new eyes, etc)
