Base Class: Bard
Bards of the College of the Night Circus are dazzling performers, illusionists, and acrobats who weave danger and artistry into a single breathtaking act. Born of shadowed tents and flickering footlights, they blur the line between spectacle and sorcery. Whether flipping through the air with uncanny grace or conjuring blades from thin air, these artists are as mesmerizing as they are deadly.
Those who join Nix's Night Circus master a unique blend of martial agility, illusion magic, and disruptive charisma. They dance across the battlefield like living phantoms, unsettling foes with a flick of the wrist or a cutting quip whispered into the wind. To face a bard of the Night Circus is to find yourself part of a show—one where the final bow might be your last.
Nimble
When you join the College of the Night Circus, you develop skills which allow you to move in miraculous, agile ways. You gain the following benefits if you are not wearing any armor and you have no shield:
- As a bonus action, you can tumble away from a creature once you have made an attack. When you tumble, you gain the benefits of taking the Disengage action.
- You can climb with a speed equal to your walking speed and only take half damage from falling.
- Your base Armor Class equals 10 plus your Dexterity and Charisma modifiers.
As If On Cue
As a bonus action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to mark a creature you can see within 60 feet of you. The mark lasts for 1 minute or until you mark another creature using this feature. Only one creature can be marked at a time.
While the target is marked, when it makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can use your reaction to roll your Bardic Inspiration die and subtract the number rolled from the creature’s roll. You must choose to use your reaction after the creature rolls, but before the outcome is determined.
Juggler of the Blades
At the 6th level, you have mastered a mix of magic and martial artistry, skilfully incorporating them into your performance. As an action, you gain the ability to expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to make a ranged spell attack of up to 60 feet, conjuring a fan of magical knives and hurling them, dealing (4d6) psychic damage to that target. You can do so only once per round on your turn. The psychic damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to(6d6) at 10th level, and (8d6) at 15th level.
Nix's Phantom Self
Beginning at 14th level, you can create an illusory duplicate of yourself as an instant, almost instinctual reaction to danger. When a creature makes an attack roll against you, you can use your reaction to cast the Mirror Image spell and interpose one of the illusory duplicates between the attacker and yourself. The attack automatically misses you, then one of the illusion dissipates.
After the spell has been cast, when an enemy moves within 5 ft. of you, you may spend one of your illusory duplicates and use your reaction to envelop yourself in a shimmer of magic and cast Misty Step.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
