Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of Dunes have spent years living and adapting their body to the harsh dry conditions of the desert. They have unlocked the secrets of the sand and became one with the dunes. Nothing separates their mind and body from the sandy depths of these dry lands. Monk of the Dunes, become the earth itself and the ground beneath their foes. They travel the desert together as nomad monasteries and spread their teaching as far as the wind can carry sand.

The Way of Dunes teaches that everything will grind down to dust eventually and that only those who flow like the sand will remain. They spend years drying out their body and mind to reach their full potential until they simply fall to dust and start their journey through the desert. Always watch your step wandering the desert, you’ll never know which grain of sand you might step into.

Body of Sand

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can break the bonds of flesh and turn into sand. As a bonus action, you can spend 1ki point to transform yourself, along with everything you’re wearing and carrying, into a 10 foot wide, 1 foot tall pile of sand. While in your Form of Sand your movement speed is halved, you can’t talk and you can’t hold objects. This form will give you the following benefits:

  • You can enter and occupy the space of another creature
  • Attacks against you have disadvantage but you have disadvantage against enemies outside your pile of sand
  • You can pass through small holes and narrow openings, though you can’t move over obstacles higher the 5 feet
  • You become immune to the Prone condition

You stay in this form for 1 minute, until you fall unconscious or until you choose to reform with a free action. You reform in an unoccupied space within your Form of sand, should there be no such space then you are forcefully pushed to the nearest unoccupied space and take 1d6 force damage. Your equipment and things held by you reappear on your person when you reform. Once you used this feature it costs 1 ki point to activate again until you finish a long rest

Sandslide

Beginning at 6th level, you gain the ability to become the floor beneath your foes and make them fall to their knees. You can use an action to sweep at your enemies feet. Choose any creature within 5 feet of you, they must succeed a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Additionally, Prone creatures or objects laying inside your Form of sand are dragged along when you move

It Gets Everywhere

At 11th level, you can choose to spend more than 1 ki point to transform into your Form of Sand and gain a larger area to control. Each ki point adds 5 feet around your form of sand.

Additionally, when you use a flurry of blows you can make an additional attack against a creature inside your form of sand.

Dust Devil

At 17th level, your form of sand becomes a raging sandstorm. When you enter your form of sand you can choose to become a sandstorm instead. You still take up the same radius but your height now equals your radius. The area you occupy counts as heavily obscured for all creatures except for you and you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed.

At the end of your turn you can choose a number of creatures within your Sandstorm and attempt to bury them in sand. Each chosen creature must make a Strength saving throw or become restrained for as long as they remain in your Sandstorm or until they use an action to repeat their Saving Throw, ending the condition on a success.

Once you use this feature you can’t do so again until you finish a short rest
