Ranger Conclave: Grudge Bearer

“Stone remembers. I remember. You’ll not be forgotten, nor forgiven.”

Dwarf Only Subclass

Among the dwarf clans, few are as feared—or as respected—as the Grudge Bearers. Trained rangers with long memories and longer ledgers, they keep sacred tomes known as Grudgebooks, recording every slight, insult, and crime witnessed or learned. To a Grudge Bearer, time does not heal—it calcifies resolve. They track the enemies of their people across generations if needed, delivering retribution with the patience of stone.

3rd Level – Grudgebook Oath

You inscribe your own Grudgebook, a bound tome of stone and iron pages, forged by clan rites. You can record the name and a brief description of any creature that has harmed you, your allies, your kin, or your land.

When a creature causes harm to you or your allies (deals damage, casts a harmful spell, etc.), you may use your reaction to inscribe them into your Grudgebook (no action required, no limit per day).

While a creature is recorded in your Grudgebook, you gain the following benefits:

+2 to damage with weapon attacks against them.

You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track them.

You can cast Hunter’s Mark on them without expending a spell slot or concentration. This special mark lasts for 1 hour.

You may maintain a number of active entries in your Grudgebook equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1). Adding a new entry beyond this limit requires removing an old one.

3rd Level – Clan Memory

You’ve learned to draw on the vast histories of your people. You gain proficiency in History and Insight. If you already have proficiency in one or both, you may double your proficiency bonus when using them regarding creatures, clans, or events you've recorded in your Grudgebook.

---

7th Level – Stone-Wrought Resilience

You become as enduring as the grudges you bear. You gain the following benefits:

When a creature from your Grudgebook forces you to make a saving throw, you gain advantage on the roll.

When you take damage from a Grudgebook creature, you may use your reaction to gain resistance to that instance of damage. You can use this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

---

11th Level – Vow of Reckoning

When you strike a creature whose name is in your Grudgebook, the weight of your oath empowers your blow.

Once per turn, when you hit a Grudgebook creature with a weapon attack, you may roll an extra damage die (of the weapon's type) for each other Grudgebook entry that has died or been removed (i.e., avenged).

For example, if you have avenged 3 grudges before, your attack deals +3 damage dice.

You may choose to channel this vengeance. When you do, you make your weapon attacks this turn deal maximum damage to Grudgebook creatures. Once you do so, you must complete a long rest to use this feature again.

---

15th Level – The Ledger is Eternal

Your soul is etched with names and blood, and your will is unbreaking.

When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you may choose to remain standing with 1 hit point. If you do, you must immediately use your action to attack a creature from your Grudgebook (if able).

Additionally, you may invoke ancestral vengeance once per long rest. For 1 minute:

You gain advantage on all attacks against Grudgebook creatures.

Creatures in your Grudgebook have disadvantage on saving throws against your ranger spells.

If you drop a Grudgebook creature to 0 HP during this time, you can immediately move up to half your speed and make another weapon attack against another Grudgebook creature in range (once per turn).
