Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

“Why rule over death when you can become the vessel for it?”

The being you call Loki is not merely a trickster — it is a master of transformation, deception, and death twisted into comedy. Your pact with this shapeshifter has left your body forever changed. You are now a walking crypt, a chaotic spirit-forge where devoured essences stir, waiting to be worn, weaponized, or unleashed. The lines between life and death blur, and what others see as finality becomes your source of power. Through consuming the souls of the fallen, you reshape yourself into countless forms, each essence a ghostly shard of power embedded in your flesh and blood.

Unlike mere necromancers who command the dead from afar, you become one with them, donning the bodies and abilities of those you have consumed. Your transformations grant you strength beyond mortal limits, allowing you to shift your form to suit the moment—whether to stalk your prey with the relentlessness of a graveborn predator or to explode forth in devastating bursts of necrotic fury. Loki’s gift is a dangerous chaos: the more souls you carry, the more volatile your power becomes, culminating in a spiraling storm of destruction that leaves devastation in its wake. Yet each soul you consume binds you tighter to the patron’s will, a living reminder that death is only the beginning.

The warlock known as Morlen once faced a siege that would have crushed any mortal defender. Surrounded and outnumbered, he invoked Loki’s name and consumed the essences of fallen allies and foes alike, his flesh twisting and shifting into a monstrous amalgam of undead horrors. With claws of spectral flame and a visage that inspired terror itself, he tore through the enemy ranks. Yet even in victory, Morlen’s mind teetered on the edge of dissolution, haunted by the voices of those now imprisoned within him. In his final act, he unleashed a spiraling torrent of souls that shattered the battlefield and sealed his legend as Loki’s living vessel — a reminder that true power demands a sacrifice far beyond death.

Level 3: Essence Ingestion

When you make this pact at 3rd level, Loki teaches you how to trap and consume the souls of the fallen.

When a creature of CR 1 or higher dies within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to create a floating Cursed Orbcontaining its essence. To absorb it, you must consume the orb using an action and succeed on an Arcana check: DC = 8 + the creature’s CR – your Warlock level

On a success, the essence is stored within you. You may store a number of essences equal to your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. If at capacity, you may choose to replace an existing essence — the replaced one is permanently destroyed.

  • All consumed creatures are considered Undead for all class features.

  • Essences are only destroyed when:

    • Used in Spiral of Ruin, or

    • Replaced when at capacity

Level 3: Chaos Spells

The magic of your patron ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Warlock level specified in the Chaos Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Chaos Spells
Warlock Level Spells
3 Hex, Inflict Wounds, Mirror Image, Phantasmal Force
5 Animate Dead, Counterspell
7 Greater Invisibility, Phantasmal Killer
9 Hallow, Seeming

Level 3: Dead Within

Loki’s influence grants you new ways to wear borrowed faces.

You learn the Thaumaturgy and Disguise Self cantrips. They don’t count against your number of cantrips known. When you cast Disguise Self, you may appear as any creature whose essence you have stored, including either its living or undead appearance.

Level 6: Shifting Corpsecraft

At 6th level, your connection to the stored dead deepens — and now you can wear their bodies like armor.

As a bonus action, you can transform into one of your stored essences. This form lasts up to 10 minutes. The creature must have a CR equal to or less than half your Warlock level (rounded down). You assume the creature’s physical stats, features, and traits, but retain your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. You keep your alignment, Warlock features, and the ability to concentrate on spells.

You cannot cast spells while transformed unless the creature could.

  • If the creature has a CR of 5 or higher, you may also gain one major trait, such as Regeneration, Multiattack, or Legendary Resistance.

You can use this feature twice per long rest. Starting at 10th level, you may use it a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest.

Level 10: Grave Unleashed

At 10th level, the souls within you no longer need to remain passive — you can cast them forth like weapons.

As an action, you summon up to three stored essences in unoccupied spaces within 30 feet. These summoned Undead act on your initiative and obey your verbal commands. They last for 1 minute or until reduced to 0 HP.

While at least one summoned essence is active, you gain:

  • +1 to AC

  • Resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage

  • The ability to cast spells as though occupying any of your summoned creatures' spaces

You may use this feature once per long rest. You may use it again by expending a Warlock spell slot of 3rd level or higher.

Spiral of Ruin

At 14th level, Loki grants you your most devastating technique — the ability to hurl the dead like a spiraling spear of destruction.

As an action, you may expend any number of stored essences (minimum 1) to create a massive necrotic vortex in a 120-foot-long, 10-foot-wide line.

Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC.

  • On a failure, a creature takes 3d10 necrotic damage per essence used and is grappled by ghostly limbs until the start of your next turn.

  • On a success, a creature takes half damage and is not grappled.

  • All essences used in this ability are permanently destroyed.

High-CR Surge:
If at least one expended essence has a Challenge Rating of 17 or higher, you gain one ability or trait from any one of those high-CR creatures until the end of your next turn. This ability must be a special trait or feature, such as Regeneration, Legendary Resistance, Multiattack, or a unique action.

You can use Spiral of Ruin once per long rest. You may use it again by expending a 5th-level Warlock spell slot and sacrificing at least three stored essences.
