Base Class: Fighter
A Spirit Swordsman isn’t just someone who swings a blade—they’re someone who’s gone deeper, past muscle and skill, and touched something most people never even feel. It’s not magic. It’s not divine. It’s raw will—your soul reaching out across the veil, and something reaching back. That’s the bond. That’s the Shared Breath. You don’t summon your spirit. You don’t control it. You meet it, somewhere in the quiet between heartbeats, and you choose each other. Maybe it’s part of you, or maybe it’s something older that saw itself in you. Doesn’t matter. Once it’s there, you don’t fight alone anymore.
Your spirit could be anything—flame, wind, shadow, even a memory of someone you never met. What matters is that it reflects you. Your regrets, your anger, your hope, your focus. The stronger your sense of self, the stronger the bond. Your blade starts to carry more than just weight and edge—it carries your essence. Every strike hums with something deeper. You cut through lies. You feel danger before it happens. And when it really matters, your spirit fights beside you, as if it always knew the rhythm of your soul.
People don’t always get it. They think you’re cursed. Or a ghost. Or both. You’re quiet, maybe even distant, but that’s because you’re never alone—you’ve always got this presence walking with you. When you fight, people can feel the shift in the air. The wind stills. Time feels slower. And they might swear they saw someone else standing behind you, even though they blinked and you were the only one there.
It’s not all glory though. The bond isn’t easy. If you lose yourself—if your mind breaks, or your emotions rot—the spirit feels it. It twists. Some Spirit Swordsmen lose control. Some disappear. Others come back… wrong. You’ve got to face yourself, even the parts that hurt, and carry it all with you. That’s the real discipline. That’s what keeps the spirit steady.
But when you’re in sync—when your focus sharpens, when you and your spirit move as one—there’s nothing like it. You’re not just wielding a sword. You are the blade. Clean. Direct. Unstoppable.

It must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier) On a failure, it takes damage of the chosen Spirit Blade type equal to your Fighter level. - You are under the effects of see invisibility
- You gain immunity to the damage type chosen for your Spirit Blade
Once you transcend, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
You are no longer merely a warrior—you are a spirit given form, a sword given breath.
