Base Class: Warlock
Once, your patron was something that could be understood — an alien mind lurking in the folds of your consciousness, a Great Old One whose will bent your thoughts. But then it became more. No longer bound by the rules of race, species, or even time, it has shed every identity it once wore. It is an unclaimed god — one without a domain, one whose essence is pure potential, unanchored to the constraints of reality. And you are the proof that it exists.
The Paradox is not just an entity; it is the state of being both known and unknowable, existing and not existing. Its voice is sometimes yours, sometimes everyone’s, sometimes no one’s. To others, it is a thought they never had, a shadow they never cast, or a coincidence too precise to be random. You are its vector, its herald, and perhaps the first worshiper in a faith that will never have a name.
Level 1: Divergent Self
You exist simultaneously in multiple states — both present and absent, real and unreal. This duality grants you uncanny control over your presence and how others perceive you.
-
Ethereal Split: As a bonus action, you create a semi-real duplicate of yourself within 30 feet. The duplicate lasts for 1 minute or until dismissed (no action required). It can move independently but cannot attack or cast spells. You can use the duplicate to distract enemies — attacks against you have disadvantage while the duplicate is within 30 feet of you. You can use this feature once per short rest.
-
Flicker Between States: When you take damage, you can use your reaction to become intangible until the start of your next turn, giving you resistance to all damage types except psychic and force. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once) per long rest.
Level 6: Inevitable Contradiction
You embody the tension between what is and what could be, bending reality around contradictions.
-
Contradictory Presence: You can choose one creature within 60 feet that can see or hear you. For 1 minute, they suffer from a confusing paradox: their attacks and saving throws against you have disadvantage, but they also gain advantage on Intelligence checks and saving throws related to you.
-
Paradox Pulse: As an action, you emit a wave of paradoxical energy in a 20-foot radius centered on you. Creatures of your choice in the area must make a Wisdom saving throw or be stunned until the end of your next turn. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Fractured Reality
You fracture reality around yourself, causing time and space to warp unpredictably.
-
Temporal Shards: When a creature attacks you with an attack roll, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, the attack instead targets a temporal shard — a fragment of you suspended in time. The shard has AC 13 and hit points equal to your warlock level. It takes damage instead of you. The shard lasts until the start of your next turn.
-
Spatial Rift: As a bonus action, teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. The space you left appears as a rift of swirling energy until the start of your next turn. Creatures moving through the rift take psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
Level 14: Paradox Unbound
You become a nexus of contradiction and possibility, defying the laws of existence.
-
When you take damage, you can use your reaction to split into two forms for 1 minute: your original form and a paradox duplicate. Both share your hit points, but the duplicate acts independently and can cast spells and take actions.
-
If either form drops to 0 hit points, the other form immediately collapses as well.
-
During this time, your attacks deal additional psychic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
-
Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before using it again.
