Base Class: Ranger
The Amazons are a warrior culture that emphasize the strength of the individual, in contrast to societies that defend themselves with large armies of hoplites and mounted cavalry. A typical Amazonian conclave will outline its territory, usually an island, and fight viciously to drive away trespassers. When the territory is threatened, they may band together into war parties, whose collective battlecries are said to strike fear into enemies up to a mile away.
A lone Amazonian huntress is formidable in close quarters with her deadly kopis blade, but she also trains with an exotic ranged weapon called the chakram. An amazon master wielding this weapon easily takes out large groups of enemies on her own.
Amazonian conclaves are ruled by women, and huntresses are almost exclusively female. Men are generally regarded as the weaker sex, but they may be trained in the arts on rare occasions.
This subclass is build around the Chakram, a new weapon defined as follows:
Chakram:
Martial melee weapon
Damage: 1d6 slashing
Properties: Light, Finesse, Thrown (20/60)
Mastery: Vex
Special: The Chakram returns to your hand unless you roll a natural 1 on the attack roll.
I have created a "magic" item to represent the Chakram with the above properties using the handaxe as a basis (which you should select for the weapon mastery). Alternatively, you can add a custom attack with the above properties.
Next to the Chakram, the Amazons often use the Kopis; A special recurved blade. Mechanically the Kopis can be represented either by the Scimitar (small variant) or the battleaxe (large variant).
Level 3: Chakram Expert
You have become an expert in the use of the Chakram and gain the following benefits with the Chakram:
- The thrown range increases to 60/120.
- You have no disadvantage on ranged attack rolls due to fighting in close quarters.
You have also learned the secret ricochet technique of the Amazons. When you hit a creature with a ranged attack using your chakram, you can make a ricochet attack with the Charkam against a different target. The ricochet attack is a normal ranged Chakram attack, but it originates from the previous target and you do not add your ability modifier to the damage roll unless it is negative and you cannot apply the vex mastery on this attack. Your Chakram can only return to you if it is within long range of you and not blocked by full cover. You can use this ability once per turn.
Level 3: Amazon Spells
When you reach a Ranger level specified in the Amazon Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| RANGER LEVEL | SPELL |
|---|---|
| 3 | Heroism |
| 5 | Find Steed |
| 9 | Fly |
| 13 | Death Ward |
| 17 | Mislead |
Level 3: Amazon Mystique
The amazons are surrounded by mystique. Very few people know where you hail from and as a result people are easier impressed by your actions. Whenever you make a Charisma check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of +1).
You also gain proficiency in one of these skills of your choice: Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion.
Level 7: Amazon Battlecry
As a bonus action you can shout your battlecry. Each creature of your choice within a 30 ft emanation originating from you must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, it has the Frightened condition for 1 minute. A creature can roll a new save at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success. You can use your battlecry twice and regain all uses after a long rest.
Level 7: Bracer Defense
You have mastered the technique of using your bracers to fend of attacks. When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to gain a bonus to your AC equal to your wisdom modifier against the triggering attack and until the end of the current turn.
Level 11: Chakram Master
You have mastered the chakram ricochet and can now use it wisdom modifier (min. 1) times per turn.
Level 15: Amazonian Spirit
The strong independence of the amazons strengthens your mind against altering effects. You become proficient in wisdom saving throws. If you are already proficient, you gain proficiency in intelligence or charisma saving throws instead (your choice).
In addition, you battlecry becomes stronger. Your battlecry gains the following:
- The area of the emanation increases to 60 ft.
- The total number of uses increases to three.
- When you shout your battlecry, you also gain 2d8 + wisdom modifier temporary hitpoints. These temporary hitpoints will vanish after 1 minute.
