Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

The half-elven woman approached the pool. "Finally, I will be reunited with my dear Ozma." But the pool could not reverse her curse. Her body became twisted and corrupted.

The Dwarven man lay upon the strange physician's table, a strange fluid being pumped into his veins. He began to wonder if this creature was entirely natural...

Many seek power or retribution, going to the deepest depths imaginable to gain what they seek. In these cases, they may make pacts with dark, ancient gods. Or maybe, they'll imbue themselves with the gods' power by force.

Nobody quite knows where these dark pools come from. Ranging from small puddles to vast lakes of dark, necrotic ichor, these ominous springs seem to be contoured out of nowhere.

Some believe the cause to be a twisted fey, wishing to re-mold humanity in their dark image. Others believe shadow-y demons use these pools to ensnare the souls of mortals. Others still blame a corrupted spirit of nature. Only two things are known for certain:

1 - They appear at one's darkest hour.

2 - If one plunges oneself into the depths, a deal is struck.

Grimm Attraction

Starting at 1st level, you gain proficiency in Animal Handling. If you're already proficient, you may add double your proficiency modifier to Animal Handling checks. Additionally, beasts have disadvantage on Wisdom Saves to resist Charm effects.

Grimm Companion

At 6th level, you learn to use your dark gifts to create a powerful bond with an eldritch darkness, molded into the form of a beast.

You choose a beast that has a CR of 1 or lower. You must spend 8 hours of work and materials worth an amount of gold equal to 100x their CR. These creatures count as medium, unless they are smaller naturally.

The required materials are blood of the creature, bone fragments and necromantic incense. When ritualistically combined, they expand into a pool of dark ichor from which your thrall is summoned. If you summon the same creature in the same spot everyday for a year, the pool becomes permanent and you can summon that creature from it for free.

You can use this feature again to resurrect a slain thrall.

If you use this ability to return a former beast thrall to life while you have a current beast thrall, your current thrall leaves you and is replaced by the restored thrall.

If you took Pact of the Chain at 3rd level, you lose the benefits of a Find Familiar spell, as your "familiar" is replaced with an otherworldly beast companion. Your Find Familiar feature is replaced by the Thrall's Bond feature. This feature meets the requirements for any Invocations that require Pact of the Chain.

Thrall's Bond

Your beast thrall gains a variety of benefits while it is linked to you.

The beast thrall loses its Multiattack action, if it has one.

The thrall obeys your commands as best it can. It acts on your initiative but has its own turns, and you determine its actions, decisions, attitudes, and so on. If you are incapacitated or absent, your thrall acts on its own.

Your beast thrall has abilities and game statistics determined in part by your level. Your thrall uses your proficiency bonus rather than its own. In addition to the areas where it normally uses its proficiency bonus, a beast thrall also adds its proficiency bonus to its AC and to its damage rolls.

Your beast thrall becomes proficient in all Saving throws.

For each level in this class you gain after 6th, your beast thrall gains an additional hit die and increases its hit points accordingly.

Whenever you gain the Ability Score Improvement class feature in the Warlock Class, your thrall’s abilities also improve. This counts retroactively. Your thrall can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or it can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, your thrall can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature unless its description specifies otherwise.

Your thrall shares your alignment, and has a personality trait and a flaw that you can roll for or select from the tables below. Your thrall shares your ideal, and its bond is always, “The warlock who travels with me is my sworn master, whom I would die to protect.”

This feature does not stack with the Revised Ranger Beast Master feature Animal Companion.

Eldritch Companion

Starting at 10th level, your companion's attacks count as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances. Additionally, they are now classed as Aberrations for the purposes of spells like "Detect Evil and Good". Spells like "Speak with Animals" that require the target to be a beast still work on these creatures.

Bloody Evolution

Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability to gain a thrall with a CR 3 or lower. The creature must be a beast or a Monstrosity, with the exception of the Choldrith and Doppelgangers which cannot be summoned, and they count as Large unless naturally smaller. You must expend 8 hours and an amount of gold equal to 100x their CR to summon these creatures.
