Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

Clerics of the Undying Devotion domain deal in magic involving life, death, and companionship. Their powers ensure that the bonds they have with others endure even where others would shatter. The believe that meaningful relationships can and should last eternally through life and death, and will go to great lengths to hold to that ideal.

Dedicated Companions

You may choose a number of willing creatures equal to your cleric level, which may include yourself, to perform a Bonding ritual for. This ritual takes 1 hour to perform, and the bond lasts for 24 hours, after which the ritual will need to be performed again.

When a creature uses the Help Action on a creature they are Bonded with, they gain the following additional bonuses:

  • When assisting an ability check: Add half their skill modifier to the roll.
  • When assisting an attack roll: add half their proficiency modifier to the roll.
  • When stabilizing a creature: On a success, the stabilized creature does not gain the unconscious condition, and gains the stunned condition for 1 round.

Clerics of the Undying Devotion Domain often have varying ways of performing the ritual. While some insist on trading grand declarations or an exchanging of gifts, others may enact it by simply sharing drinks and spending quality time around a fire. Ultimately, all that is required to satisfy the magic is a sincere show of devotion.

Level 3: Undying Devotion Domain Spells

Your connection to this divine domain ensures you always have certain spells ready. When you reach a Cleric level specified in the Undying Love Domain Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Undying Devotion Domain Spells
Cleric Level Prepared Spells
3 False Life, Warding Bond, Borrowed Knowledge, Find Familiar
5 Spirit Guardians, Sending
7 Death Ward, Revivify
9 Contact Other Plane, Telepathic Bond

Level 3: Shared Burdens

As a Magic action, you present your Holy Symbol and expend a use of your Channel Divinity to evoke necrotic energy that can transfer Hit Points between creatures. Each creature within 30 feet of yourself (which includes you) takes Necrotic damage equal to three times your Cleric level. Creatures may choose to roll a Constitution Save to halve the damage. The save DC is equal to your spell DC.

Then you may divide the total damage received to heal a number of creatures up to your proficiency bonus you choose within 30 feet of yourself (which may include you).

Clerics of the Undying Devotion Domain believe that pain should be a shared thing among companions. Sometimes they insist upon it.

Level 6: In Life and Death

When a creature falls below 0 Hit Points, creatures they are Bonded with may immediately choose to take 1d4 times your cleric level of Necrotic damage to restore Hit Points equal to half the total to the fallen creature. The receiving creature does not gain the unconscious condition. If the amount of healing exceeds the creature's maximum Hit Points, the remainder are gained as Temporary Hit Points.

The bonds you form last beyond even the veil of death, and the sacrifices made for them embolden them even further.

Level 17: Entwined Fates

You and one willing creature may undergo a special bonding ceremony that ensures your fates are inextricably linked. If you or the creature you are bonded with through this ceremony dies, the fallen creature is resurrected as if by the Resurrection spell 2d4 days later if the other is still alive. If somehow the fallen creature is prevented from resurrecting within that time, the surviving creature dies as well.

This cannot prevent a creature from dying of old age. If one of the Bonded creatures dies of old age, the other dies 2d12 hours later. The Bond formed by this ability can be broken by nothing less than a Wish spell.

For clerics of the Undying Devotion domain, some bonds become intrinsic to their identity. The exact details of this ceremony varies based on the nature of the creature's relationship, but ultimately it most include spoken oaths of devotion to one another.
