Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins who have rejected the teachings of their order, but are still loyal to their deity or an ideal might undertake the Oath of Passion. Choosing to rely on feeling, faith, and instinct instead of a written code, Paladins who take this Oath have learned that a Paladin's divine power comes not directly from the deity they serve, but from their own sheer faith. As such, they can cast divine magic through raw emotion, and often temper themselves to the greatest degree of emotional control, unleashing it exactly when needed. Others, however, may choose to be walking storms of feeling, becoming indignant over the slightest offense to themselves or what they believe in.

FOLLOW YOUR PASSION

Due to its very nature, the Oath of Passion has no tenets. As such, Paladins who undertake this oath are often chaotic but unshakable in their loyalty to whatever or whomever they pledge their service to. A loyalty which can be manipulated to transform the Paladin into an Oathbreaker. Those who live by the Oath of Passion must take great care, for the freedom in which they thrive can be so easily turned against them.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed in the Oath of Passion Spells table. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how oath spells work.

Oath of Passion Spells

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.

Quiet the Mind. You can use your Channel Divinity to calm those around you. As an action, you may cast Calm Emotions without the concentration component and without expending a spell slot.

Unleash Fury. You can use your Channel Divinity to attack with supernatural ferocity. As an action, you can set your ire upon a creature that you can see, allowing you to make an extra attack against it when you take the Attack action for 1 minute.

Aura of Duality

Starting at 7th level, you constantly emanate an emotional aura while you’re not incapacitated. You must choose which type of the following traits your aura emanates at the end of a short or long rest. The aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover.

Apathy - Your aura can become menacing as your emotions radiate out from you. All hostile creatures in this aura who are not immune to being Frightened must subtract your Charisma Modifier from any attack rolls made against you or your allies.

Empathy - Your aura can become peaceful, bolstering and linking the minds of those who feel it. You and all other creatures you designate within the aura can communicate telepathically with each other, and gain resistance to Psychic damage.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Divine Instinct

Starting at 15th level, you have fully incorporated your emotions and the emotions of those around you into your base instincts. You gain Blindsight out to a range equivalent to your Aura of Duality feature, and automatically know a creature's disposition towards you if they are within that range.

Wrathbearer

At 20th level, you gain the ability to become one with the divine magic flowing through you, taking on an appearance of your choice. For example, your irises could become yellow as your muscles swell, or your skin could crack with divine light as a crackling halo forms over your head. As an action, you can magically become an avatar of wrath, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional attack as part of that action.
  • Whenever you cast a Paladin spell that has a casting time of 1 action, you can cast it using a bonus action instead.
  • You automatically succeed Constitution saving throws you make to maintain Concentration on a spell.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
