Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

Among rangers, few are as disciplined or as commanding as the Sovereign Swordsman. Trained in the art of war and the etiquette of the court, these warriors embody the balance between intellect and blade — a synthesis of nobility and lethality. They read both the terrain and the temperament of their foes with the same precision that they draw steel.

A Sovereign Swordsman is not a mere duelist; they are a tactician whose sword speaks the language of command. To face one is to stand before a mind that measures every breath, every angle, and every faltering step. They lead not through rank or title, but through undeniable mastery — the kind that bends lesser wills and silences doubt.

Many of their kind once served as bodyguards to kings, generals of vanguard orders, or champions of old houses fallen into ruin. Even when stripped of heraldry, they carry themselves with the gravity of lineage. Their blades are not simply tools of war but instruments of sovereignty — precise, elegant, and final.

In battle, a Sovereign Swordsman moves with regal calculation. Each motion is deliberate, a blend of courtly grace and soldier’s pragmatism. They can see the shape of a duel before it begins, and when they strike, it is with the certainty of judgment rendered. To walk the path of the Sovereign Swordsman is to hold dominion over the narrow space between perception and perfection — to rule not through crown or decree, but through flawless command of self and steel.

Level 3: Keen Appraisal

  • You gain Insight and Investigation proficiency. If you already have either, double your proficiency bonus for checks with it.

  • As a bonus action, you can study one creature you can see within 30 feet. Until the end of your next turn, you learn whether the creature’s AC, Strength, or Dexterity score is higher, and you gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls against it on your next attack.

Level 3: Dueling Focus

When you fight with a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls (this stacks with the Dueling Fighting Style).
In addition, when a creature you can see attacks you, you can use your reaction to add your Wisdom modifier to your AC against that attack.

Level 3: Sovereign’s Read

When you hit a creature you’ve used Keen Appraisal on, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier). On a failed save, the target has disadvantage on attack rolls against you until the start of your next turn.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once), regaining all expended uses after a long rest.

Level 7: Tempo Shift

When you take the Attack action, you can replace one attack with a special maneuver called a Tempo Shift. You move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks and make a single melee attack. On a hit, the target’s speed is reduced to 0 until the start of your next turn.

Level 7: Absolute Edge

Whenever you hit a creature that has attacked you since the start of your last turn, you deal an additional 1d8 weapon damage and can immediately make an Insight or Perception check as a free action. On a result of 15 or higher, you can choose one of the following until the end of your next turn:

  • Gain advantage on your next attack roll against that creature.

  • Impose disadvantage on that creature’s next saving throw.

Level 7: The Sovereign Moment

  • You gain advantage on all attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks.

  • You can make two reactions per round, but not more than one per turn.

  • When you use Tempo Shift, you can target two creatures instead of one, and they both have their speed reduced to 0 on a hit.

  • Whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can immediately make one additional melee attack as part of the same action.

Level 11: Regent’s Stance

  • Whenever you take the Attack action, you can choose up to two allies within 30 feet who can see or hear you. Until the start of your next turn, they gain a +2 bonus to AC and advantage on the next attack roll they make.

  • You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once). All uses refresh after a long rest.

This marks the moment you stop being a mere duelist — you become a battlefield commander whose swordsmanship inspires and protects others.

Level 11: Mirror of Mastery

  • When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to immediately make one melee attack against that creature.

  • If your attack hits, you deal normal damage and may apply your Sovereign’s Read effect without expending a use.

It’s not just counterattacking — it’s demonstrating that your opponent’s every motion was already part of your plan.

Level 15: Crown of Discipline

  • You can’t be frightened, charmed, or paralyzed while conscious.

  • When you roll initiative and have no uses of Sovereign’s Read remaining, you regain one.

  • Additionally, when you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for a melee attack, you can reroll it once.
