Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

You have lived your life studying the ways of arcane magic, not to harness it yourself, but to check the power Sorcerers, Wizards, and Warlocks who believe that they rule the world. Perhaps your hometown was overtaken by a power-hunger Enchanter, or your home was set aflame by a careless Wild Mage. Or perhaps you were once a sage yourself, choosing to use your deep arcane knowledge for the very antithesis of its intention. Whatever your motive, you hope to be the bane of spellcasters everywhere, the one they whisper about in dorm rooms at magical schools or tucked away in demiplanes.

Antimagic Mark

You can use your hunter's mark to weaken a spellcaster. Any creature affected by your hunter's mark spell has disadvantage on saving throws to maintain concentration on spells. Additionally, when a creature affected by your hunter's mark attempts to cast a spell, you can force it to make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature expends its spell slot and does not cast the spell, and hunter's mark ends on the creature. You can force the creature to make this saving throw each time it casts a spell until it fails, provided hunter's mark is still in effect on the creature.

Mage Slayer Spells

When you reach a Ranger level specified in the Mage Slayer spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Mage SlayerSpells
Ranger Level Spell
3 shield
5 see invisibility
9 counterspell
13 otiluke's resilient sphere
17 wall of force

Unmasking of the Arcane

You have all the tools to read an enemy spellcaster. You gain proficiency and Expertise in Arcana. At any time, including as part of your turn in combat (no action required), you can make a Wisdom (Insight) or Intelligence (Arcana) check on a creature that you can see, contested against the target's Charisma (Deception) check. If you succeed, you know whether the creature is a spellcaster, what level of spells it can cast, and its spellcasting class or classes if it has one. If the creature is incapacitated, the check automatically succeeds. Whether you succeed or fail, the creature does not know that you attempted to read it.

Additionally, you can cast detect magic with this feature once without expending a spell slot. Once you do, the spell cannot be used in this way until after your next Long Rest.

Sensory Shutdown

You can take steps to limit a creature's ability to attack you. When a creature affected by your hunter's mark makes an attack roll against you, or forces you to make a saving throw, you can take a Reaction to impair one of its senses. Choose one of the following options:

Vision. The creature must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or become blinded for 1 minute. It can repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Speech. The creature must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or become the center of the silence. This version of the spell exists in a 5-foot radius sphere and moves with the creature at its center. The silence lasts for 1 minute and ends if you attack the creature directly, if you choose to dismiss the silence (no action required), or if the silence is otherwise dispelled.

Focus. The creature's mind becomes boggled. Any spells the creature was concentrating on end automatically, and it cannot cast concentration spells for 1 minute.

Once a creature has been affected by this feature, it cannot be affected by it in the same way again for 24 hours.

Magic Resistance

You have trained against spellcasters and know how to defend against their attacks. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Mage Bane

You are adept at disabling and maiming spellcasters in one fell swoop. You can cast counterspell without expending a spell slot. You can do so a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

In addition, whenever you cast counterspell, you can make an Attack as part of the casting of that spell.
