Base Class: Bard
These bards use magic to pluck sinews and tap bones to produce music and performances. A bone chanter might carry dry bones or perform on battlefields. This mastery over mortal remains allows them to animate the dead, not as zombies, but as dancing musical performers.
Bonus Proficiencies
When you join the College of Lore at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with three skills of your choice.
Death's Cadence
Additionally bardic inspiration could be used in a unique way. When a creature is given a bardic inspiration die, it can be made a dreadful cadence. When a creature uses this dreadful cadence their next successful weapon attack or spell deals extra necrotic damage equal to the number rolled on the bardic inspiration die.
Animating performance
In addition, as a bonus action, a use of bardic inspiration can be used to command one or more undead creatures created with the animate dead spell within 60 ft. The bardic inspiration dies rolled, and for one minute, the undead adds the number rolled to their attack and damage rolls.
The Final Encore
As a reaction when I controlled undead creature is destroyed, it can explode with a burst of necrotic energy. All unfriendly creatures within 10 ft of the destroyed creature must make a constitution saving throw against the spell save DC, taking 5d8 necrotic damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one
This feature can be used a number of times equal to the charisma modifier (minimum of once) and all expended uses are regained after a long rest.
