Base Class: Ranger
🎖️ Field Tyrant
Ranger Archetype
"The hum of engines, the distant thunder of autocannons — that’s your music. You don’t fight the battle alone; you direct the skies."
Field Tyrants are the battlefield’s eyes and voice — Joint Tactical Air Controllers (JTACs) who specialize in coordinating devastating air support. Their mastery of communication, reconnaissance, and battlefield command makes them indispensable to modern combat operations.
Level 3: Designation Protocol
- Airframes Assigned: When you finish a long rest, the GM assigns you a number of airframes equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). These represent friendly aircraft available for the mission.
Each airframe comes fully armed according to its stat block, and each has limited ammunition. - Calling an Airframe:
As an Action, you may designate a visible target area within 1 mile that you can see or have line of communication to (such as through a drone or spotter). You call in one of your assigned airframes to perform a strike run using its available weapons. - You make the required attack rolls or saving throws using the modifiers listed in the airframe’s stat block.
- Once an airframe has expended all of its ordnance, it Returns to base and rearms meaning you lose the airframe until the end of combat
Stat Blocks:
Each airframe’s weapons and stats (attack rolls, save DCs, and damage) are detailed in its individual Airframe Profile, provided by the GM.
Example: AC-235 Gunship (Autocannon, Hellfire, Rocket Pods).
Level 7: Target Acquisition Suite
- You gain Proficiency in Charisma saving throws if you don’t already have it.
- When you use your Designation Protocol, you may use a Bonus Action to mark a single creature or location (you must specify the target and airframe you’ve given the designation to).
- Airframe attacks against your marked target have advantage on attack rolls.
- The marked target cannot gain the benefits of cover greater than half cover against the strike.
You may maintain up to one active mark at a time. It lasts for 1 minute or until the target is destroyed.
Level 11: Coordinated Bombardment
- When you call in an airframe strike, you can combine the attacks of two assigned airframes at once, if both still have ordnance.
- The two strikes can target the same area or separate ones within 60 feet of each other.
- If the same area is targeted by both, creatures in the area make their saving throws with disadvantage, Or you roll hit rolls with advantage depending on the weapon type used.
Additionally, your Designation Protocol range increases to 3 miles as long as you have communication relays or drones in place.
Level 15: Command Overwatch
You can call in airframes as a Bonus Action instead of an Action.
