Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Pact Overview

To serve The Shadow is to surrender your reflection — to be unseen, unknown, and unforgettable when it suits you. This patron is the consciousness of secrecy itself: an ageless intelligence formed from the collective whispers of liars, spies, and unseen gods. It teaches that control of truth is control of reality — that perception, not fact, rules all.

Some believe The Shadow is a sentient layer of the Shadowfell. Others claim it is a forgotten demigod erased from all memory, feeding on secrets to remain hidden. Whatever the truth, those bound to it become artists of illusion, wielders of charm, and masters of quiet deceit.

Level 3: The Shadow Spells

The magic of your patron ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Warlock level specified in the Shadow Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

The the Shadow Spells
Warlock Level Spells
3 Darkness, Disguise Self, Detect Thoughts, Mirror Image
5 Hypnotic Pattern, Nondetection
7 Charm Monster, Greater Invisibility
9 Modify Memory, Seeming

Level 3: Voice of Dread

You gain proficiency in Deception and Persuasion.

You can magically speak directly into the ears of a creature you can see.

As an action, you can torment them with your words. The creature makes a wisdom saving throw vs you spell DC. On a failure, they have disadvantage on all rolls until the start of your next turn. You can use this feature a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus.

Level 6: Veil of Intrigue

You learn to cloak your intentions and manipulate others with supernatural grace.

  • You are always under the effects of the [Tooltip Not Found]; it requires no concentration.
  • You can cast Suggestion once without expending a spell slot. When cast this way, your words are whispered directly into the target’s mind in your patron’s voice — audible only to them.
You regain the ability to do so after finishing a short or long rest.

Additionally:
When a creature you can see makes an Insight check against you, they have disadvantage on the roll.

Level 10: Shadow of Many Faces

The Shadow teaches you the secret of self-erasure.You can take on new personas as easily as others change clothes. As an action, you can transform your appearance (as Disguise Self), and the illusion lasts until you choose to end it. The illusion can withstand physical inspection — it bends light and sound to sell the deception — requiring a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC to see through.

While in any disguise created this way:

  • You have advantage on Deception and Performance checks made to maintain the false identity.
  • You can alter your voice and mannerisms at will.
  • Once per long rest, you can create an entire false identity, complete with forged documents, handwriting, and social history (the DM may determine details).

The Shadow doesn’t hide what you are — it teaches you to be anything.

Level 14: The Perfect Lie

You can weave a deception so profound that reality itself bends to believe it.
When you fail a Deception or Persuasion check, or Charisma saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead.

In addition, you can speak a True Falsehood — a lie so convincing that it temporarily becomes reality.

As an action, you speak a statement no longer than one sentence (e.g. “There is no door here,” “We are old friends,” “He was never here,” etc.).
For 1 minute or until you lose concentration (as if concentrating on a spell), the world subtly reshapes to make the statement true for all creatures who can hear and understand you when you speak it.

Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

“Truth is a cage. Lies are the keys that open it.”
