Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Where as elves have trained for generations with bonding blade with spell, the world of man has also adapted to meld their steel with magic. An armamentalist is a wizard who has forsaken specialising in a certain school of magic in order to arm themselves for battle in the front row.

Though a human tradition, this skillset has been taken up by casters who believe that brain and brawn can work hand in hand with one another. By donning their armour and wielding their weapons, they have the capability of fighting alongside any fighter or paladin.

Way of Sword and Spell

As you adopt this arcane tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with light armour and medium armour. You also gain proficiency with two simple or martial weapons of your choice, or one simple or marital weapon and shields.

Second Weapon

You gain proficiency in a simple or martial weapon of your choice.

Shield

You gain proficiency in shields.

Arcane Aegis

Starting at 2nd level, you have developed the innate capability of bolstering your armour with arcane wards. You can bond to a suit of armour you are wearing like you would attune a magical item during a short or long rest. Once bonded to the armour you enchant the armour with two charges of an Arcane Aegis. The charges lasts until you finish an extended rest or until you have doffed your armour for over an hour.

You can use a bonus action to activate and expend an Arcane Aegis charge on your armour, which lasts for 1 minute. You can choose to dismiss an Arcane Aegis on the armour you are wearing as a free action at the start of your turn. While the Arcane Aegis is active, you receive the following benefits:

  • Your armour provides additional AC equal to half your intelligence modifier rounded down (minimum of 1).
  • Your physical brawn assists in keeping your mind defended. You gain a bonus to Constitution saving throws you make to maintain your concentration on a spell equal to your Strength modifier (minimum of +1).
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to your wizard level + your Intelligence modifier. Any remaining temporary hit points gained from this feature after the duration ends are lost.

Extra Attack

Starting at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the attack action on your turn.

Battle Master Mage

Starting at 10th level, your attunement with armour has increased vastly. You gain proficiency with heavy armour. As you have such affinity with our equipment, you can don/doff a suit of bonded armour as an action.

In addition, if you take damage while your Arcane Aegis is active, you can use a reaction to expend a spell slot equal to one tenth of the damage dealt (rounded up). You gain resistance against the damage dealt by the attack and any further attacks from that attacker until the start of your next turn.

Spellblade

At 14th level, you can also bond your Arcane Aegis up to two melee weapons you carry as well as your armour. The bond lasts until you finish an extended rest or until you have left the weapon unattended for over an hour. You may only have one suit of armour and up to two weapons bonded at any given time.

While a weapon is bonded to you, it can be used in place of an arcane implement for casting. Any enhancement bonus of the weapon is added to your spell attack rolls and spell save DCs. In addition, when your Arcane Aegis is active, your weapon receives the following benefits while wielded by you:

  • The bonded weapon counts as magical regardless of if it has any mystical properties.
  • You gain a bonus to damage rolls of weapon attacks made with this weapon. The bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (minimum +1).
  • On your turn, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack using the bonded weapon you may expend one spell slot to deal an additional 1d8 plus 1d8 per level of the spell slot damage. You may also change the damage type of the additional damage to be either acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage. This can only be activated once per turn per bonded weapon.
