Bard
Base Class: Bard

Contrary to what the name might suggest, the bards of the College of Silence do not prioritize silence, but rather use it to aid their real goal; the discovery and utilization of secrets. The College of Silence finds long lost pieces of lore, dangerous magical knowledge, and secrets that could topple empires. They take these bit of knowledge and keep them safe, staying silent, and waiting for the perfect time to reveal them.

These bards might subtly spread these secrets; hidden in song or poem. There are many who would attempt to bribe them to learn these secrets, and other who would pay fortunes to keep these bards off of their backs, but these bards usually refuse. They consider the truth to be more important than money, and that care should be taken in disseminating the truth.

Level 3: Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Silence at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Insight, Investigation, and Perception skills. If you already have any of these skill, you can pick another skill to replace it.

Level 3: Call on Lore

Also at 3rd level, you learn how to call on the many bits of lore and secrets you have encountered, and can use them to aid you. When you make an ability check, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration. Roll your Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to your ability check. You must choose to do this before you roll the ability check, not after.

Level 6: Strengthened Mind

At 6th level, your mind has become accustomed to holding dangerous bits of lore and knowledge that threaten to break most other creatures. Your mind is like an impenetrable vault in this regard.

You gain resistance to psychic damage, and your mind cannot be read against your will. If a creature or effect attempts to read your mind, you know that that something is trying to read your mind, and can choose whether or not to allow your mind to be read. You do not gain any knowledge about the location or source of the mind probe, nor do you learn of the nature of the probe.

Level 14: Secrets Best Left Silenced

Starting 14th level, you can call upon the darkest, most dangerous secret you have discovered to aid you.

You can gain a +5 to an ability check. In return, you take 10 psychic damage, which bypasses any resistance you have to it. You can add this bonus before or after you roll, but before the DM tells you whether you succeed or fail. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, after which, you must complete a long rest.
