Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

While most wizards learn their craft at renowned academies or through apprenticeships overseen by wise masters, the humble hedge mages develop their talents through practical experience—often all on their own. These worldly practitioners of magic approach the arcane from a pragmatic perspective, viewing it more as a tool or means to make a living, rather than a source of power or path to personal glory.

Pragmatic Savant

Beginning when you choose this tradition at 2nd level, you know how to get by in your arcane studies without spending a fortune. When you copy a spell into your spellbook, you can choose to double the time required to do so to halve the amount of gold needed. Furthermore, if the spell is of 1st or 2nd level, you can reduce the gold required to 0 when you do so.

Fundamental Prodigy

Also at 2nd level, the fundamentals of magic are second nature to you. You learn prestidigitation and one other cantrip of your choice from any class’ spell list, which counts as a wizard spell for you. These cantrips do not count against your total number of cantrips known. In addition, you can maintain concentration on two spells at the same time, provided at least one of them is a cantrip. When you need to make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration, you roll one saving throw for each spell. If either saving throw fails, both spells immediately end.

Flexible Mind

At 6th level, you're always quick to adapt when the situation calls for it. As a bonus action, you can choose to replace one of your prepared spells with a different one in your spellbook.

Once you've used this feature two times, you must finish a long rest before you can do so again.

Arcane Miser

At 10th level, you've learnt how to avoid wasting expensive components. When you cast a spell that is in your spellbook that would consume a material component as part of it, you may choose for the component to not be consumed.

Once you've used this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can do so again.

Heuristic Learner

At 14th level, you learn best from observing others. When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you casts a spell of a level you can cast, you can use your reaction to memorize the spell until you finish a long rest. You can only have one spell memorized at a time, and if you attempt to memorize a second spell, you immediately forget the first spell.

While you have a spell memorized you can cast it as if you had it prepared, requiring spell components and a spell slot as normal to do so, though it does not count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If the spell does not appear on the wizard spell list, it nonetheless counts as a wizard spell for you while it is memorized.

Alternatively, if the memorized spell appears on the wizard spell list, you can choose to copy it into your spellbook while you have it memorized, following the normal rules for copying a spell.
