Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Briar Blackspark was a devoted student of the weave with a passion for research, knowledge, and learning. Above all he was captivated with the beauty of magic, and the truth revealed in that beauty. As a result Briar, though widely studied, favored the whimsical side of magic, choosing to explore and capture the light and fanciful forms of magic which bring joy and wonder. After a long life of adventuring Briar returned to the scholarly life, taking charge of his library and teaching at various universities. Though a Bladesinger in practice, himself, the now Dr. Blackspark developed the field of Magical Whimsy, and began teaching this school of magic to the next generation of wizards. The tenants of the School of Whimsy are captured by the parting words of Briar's mentor Dierdre. "Never forsake your wanderlust. My hope for you is that on your journey you will discover real magic: Truth found within Beauty." Beauty, Truth, and Wonder thus became the foundations for Whimsy and the key to capturing the Majesty of Magic.

Practitioners of the School are able to harness the Sparks of Whimsy to alter and create fantastical effects to their spell casting, through delightful style of performing spells, to the shifting and sparking of color and direction of spell energy.

Beauty

Beginning when you select this school at third level you have come to appreciate the inherent Beauty of the arcane. You have advantage on Intelligence checks, and any Perception (WIS) and Insight (WIS) pertaining to matters about magic or the arcane. You also gain the following expanded spell list, these spells are Wizard spells for you: Detect Evil and Good, Detect Poison and Disease, Enthrall, Find the Path, Find Traps, Locate Animals and Plants

Whimsy

Starting at third level you are able to infuse any magic with Whimsy. You gain 2 Sparks of Whimsy. This number increases by 1 when you reach levels 6, 10, 14, and 18 in this class. Whenever you cast a spell of 1 level of higher you are able to expend these motes for one of the following effects:

  1. Burst of Fancy: You are able to fancifully fling a fraction of your magic to aid or maim a nearby target. You may reduce the number of dice you roll for the spell effect by one. If you do target a creature unaffected by the spell within 30ft. of one creature affected by the spell. You may choose for the target to heal or receive 2d6 of damage.
  2. Boon of Awe: The stagecraft of your casting captures the awe of observers, distracting them. A target of your spell you choose must make a Wisdom Saving Throw against your spell save DC. On a fail, the target has -2d4 to the saving throw against the spell, or you have +2d4 to the spell attack roll.
  3. Boldness of Play: The reckless playfulness of your magic can be plied for greater impact. You may reduce the spell attack roll or save DC by -2 to add 2d6 damage to the effects of the spell. This damage matches the type of the spell. If the spell has no damage type this damage is Force dmg. If the spell has an effect that would be ended by taking damage this damage does not end that effect. In the case of a spell attack roll you may decide to use this feature after rolling dice, but before the results are known.

You regain all uses of Sparks of Whimsy upon completing a long rest.
