Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who follow the Way of the Perfect Form devote themselves to achieving absolute control over their bodies. Through disciplined practice, intense focus, and precise manipulation of internal energy, they learn to adapt their physical capabilities to meet any situation. This discipline teaches that the body is not fixed, but fluid—every muscle, breath, and movement can be shifted, strengthened, or softened according to the monk’s needs.

A practitioner of this tradition constantly redistributes power within their body, willingly sacrificing certain strengths to refine others. Whether bolstering defense at the cost of offense, increasing accuracy while losing striking power, or channeling energy into speed over stability, these monks perfect the art of controlled tradeoffs.

Through mastery of ki, they enhance these techniques even further, refining their Forms into powerful expressions of bodily perfection. A monk who embraces this path strives not only for skill, but for full command over their own physique, shaping themselves with unmatched precision and intent.

Internal Redirection

You have learned to shift your body instinctively to block incoming harm.

When a creature you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction and spend 1 ki point to reduce the incoming damage by an amount equal to your martial arts die + wisdom modifier.

Apex State

You momentarily achieve total mastery over every movement of your body. Once per long rest as an action, you can spend 4 ki points to enter Apex State for 1 minute. While in this state:

  • At the start of each of your turns, you may enter any Form you know without spending ki and without using a bonus action.
  • For each turn immediately after switching Forms, the drawback of your current Form is suppressed.

In addition, once per turn when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you may force it to make a Wisdom saving throw against your ki save DC. On a failed save, choose one of the following effects:

  • Dazed: The creature can’t take reactions until the end of its next turn.
  • Toppled: The creature has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.

When Apex State ends you receive the following effects:

  • 1 level of exhaustion
  • you can’t enter a Form until the end of your next turn.
  • you gain disadvantage on Constitution and Dexterity saving throws until the end of your next turn.

Seamless Transition

Your movement flows perfectly in-between stances.

When you enter a Form on your turn, you may make one unarmed strike as part of the same bonus action used to enter it.

If this attack hits, you can immediately move 5 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.

Perfect Form Stances

Stance Table:

Monks of the perfect form can manipulate certain aspects of themselves to improve other stats. At the beginning of their turn, they can activate one of the stances listed below, and gain the forms benefits and drawbacks. As a bonus action while a form is active they can switch between forms.

Forms

Form of Defense +1 AC -1 hit rolls
Form of Speed +10 Movement -1 AC
Form of Precision +1 attack rolls -10 ft Movement
Form of Power +1 Damage to unarmed strikes -1 AC

Reactive Shift

When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to spend 1 ki and enter a new Form (ending your current Form). The new Form applies immediately, potentially affecting the triggering attack if relevant.

Efficient Transition

You can draw upon perfect bodily alignment for a brief instant, allowing you to switch Forms with exceptional efficiency.
You gain a number of Efficient Transition charges equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended charges when you finish a long rest.

At the start of your turn, you can expend 1 Efficient Transition charge to enter a Form without spending ki and without using a bonus action. Entering a Form in this way does not end your current Form until the new Form takes effect.

You must be able to take actions on this turn to use this feature.

Anatomical Control

Monks of the perfect form have honed their body to near perfection, able to adapt their body to any physical need

At level three these monks gain proficiency in both Acrobatics and Athletics.

You can sped 1 ki point to gain advantage on Acrobatics or Athletics.

Honed Body

Monks of the Perfect Form have spent countless hours refining and fortifying themselves

Monks get proficiency in Constitution Saving Throws.

Overcharge

Through intense bodily discipline, you learn to momentarily push a Form beyond its normal limits. By expending ki, you can briefly amplify a Form’s strength, but still retaining its drawbacks.
When you enter a Form, you can choose to overcharge it. To do so, you spend 1 additional ki point (for a total of 2 ki to enter that Form). The overcharge enhances the Form’s benefit until the end of your current turn. Each Form provides a different amplified effect.

You can overcharge a Form only once per turn.

Overcharging a Form does not remove or lessen its drawback, the tradeoff remains intact.
Form of defense:
Your defensive focus intensifies.
Benefit: Your AC increases by an additional +1 until the end of your turn.

Form of Power:

You release a burst of overwhelming force.

Benefit: The next unarmed strike you hit with this turn deals an additional Martial Arts die of damage.
Form of speed:
Your movements accelerate beyond normal limits.
Benefit: You gain an additional 10 feet of movement until the end of your turn.
Form of Precision:
Your precision sharpens to a razor edge.
Benefit: You gain an additional +1 bonus to attack rolls with unarmed strikes and monk weapons until the end of your turn.
