Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Sorcerers of the Planar Flux are born with their veins infused by unstable planar energies. In Valrénne, these sorcerers often arise near planar bleed zones, where the boundaries between planes are thin, or in cities where industrial and arcane power converge. Their magic is unpredictable, dangerous, and wondrous, reflecting the fractured nature of reality itself.

Planar Flux sorcerers are simultaneously feared and revered: feared for the unpredictable results of their power, revered for their uncanny connection to the raw essence of creation.

Level 1: Planar Surge

Whenever you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, a Planar Surge occurs. This is similar to Wild Magic, but flavored for Valrénne: reality briefly warps around you.

Planar Surge Table (d10):

  1. A minor planar aspect appears (a small elemental, fey creature, or shadowy wisp) for 1 minute. Harmless, but may interact with objects or creatures.

  2. Gravity shifts for 1 round in a 10 ft radius: creatures must make a Dexterity saving throw or fall prone.

  3. Time hiccup: choose a creature within 30 ft; their speed is halved until the start of your next turn.

  4. A random cantrip you know casts automatically at the nearest creature within range.

  5. A planar echo of yourself appears, mimicking your last action (no damage, purely visual, lasts 1 round).

  6. Minor planar tear: objects within 5 ft of you glow or pulse strangely until your next turn.

  7. You gain temporary hit points equal to your Sorcerer level.

  8. Unstable element: a small burst of fire, frost, acid, or lightning erupts in a 5 ft square within 30 ft. Each creature in the square makes a Dexterity saving throw or takes 1d6 damage.

  9. Reality flicker: roll a d4, and each creature you choose must reroll its next attack roll.

  10. Magical resonance: you regain 1 sorcery point.

Level 1: Flux Adept

You can manipulate the instability of planar energy. Whenever you cast a spell that forces a saving throw, you may roll a d4 and add the number to the save DC (can be done once per short or long rest).

Level 6: Planar Conduit

You gain the ability to channel ambient planar energy to enhance spells.

  • When you cast a sorcerer spell, you may spend 1 sorcery point to choose one random effect from the Planar Surge table.

  • If a planar surge occurs naturally, you may roll twice and pick which effect happens.

Level 14: Fractured Reality

Your presence destabilizes the area around you.

  • Creatures of your choice within 10 ft of you have disadvantage on concentration checks while you are casting a spell.

  • Once per long rest, you may cast Fracture of the Weave without using a spell slot, targeting a 15 ft radius.

Level 18: Master of Flux

You can fully embrace the chaos of Valrénne’s planar energy.

  • Planar Surges are optional: you may choose to trigger or suppress them whenever you cast a spell.

  • Once per long rest, you may stabilize or destabilize a planar leak within 60 ft. Stabilization prevents environmental damage, while destabilization causes minor, unpredictable effects (DM discretion).
