Base Class: Rogue
Planeshifters are Rogues who have unlocked the power to step between planes to outmaneuver foes, bypass obstacles, and strike from impossible angles. Their movements appear as blurs, afterimages, and sudden displacements, making them notoriously difficult to track or contain. Highly trained, these rogues are sought after as assassins, scouts, and elite operatives.
Level 3: Extraplanar Knowledge
Starting at 3rd level, you gain a growing awareness of planar boundaries, allowing you to sense and interpret disturbances from beyond the Material Plane.
You gain proficiency in Arcana. If you are already proficient in Arcana, you instead gain expertise.
In addition, you learn to perceive beyond the Material Plane.
Extraplanar Sight:
As a bonus action, you can open your senses to the Ethereal Plane for 1 minute. For the duration, you can see into the Ethereal Plane out to a range of 30 feet, allowing you to faintly perceive creatures and objects through walls and other solid objects. You cannot read text, discern fine details, or identify exact objects through this sight. While this effect is active, you have advantage on Arcana and Perception checks related to planar phenomena, invisible creatures, or magical traps.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Level 3: Planeshift
Starting at 3rd level, you learn to partially slip between planes,
At the start of your turn, you can choose to partially phase into the Ethereal Plane until the end of that turn (no action required). While phased, you gain the following benefits:
- You can move through other creatures’ spaces without treating them as difficult terrain.
- You ignore nonmagical difficult terrain.
- Opportunity attacks against you are made with disadvantage.
In addition, as a bonus action while phased, you can end the effect early to gain advantage on the next attack roll you make this turn against a creature within 5 feet of where you reappear.
You cannot use planeshift to pass through walls, and if you attempt to end your turn while occupying the same space as another creature, you will instead reappear in the nearest unoccupied space, if there are multiple spaces it will be left to the players discretion.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Level 9: Ethereal Jaunt
Starting at 9th level, you begin to understand how to manipulate the barrier between the Planes more proficiently.
As a reaction to being targeted by an attack from a creature you can see, you are able to force yourself through the border between the Ethereal and Material Planes, imposing disadvantage on the attack roll. Afterwards you may choose one of the following effects:
Displacement. You teleport up to 10 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
Reprisal. If the triggering attack misses, you can make one weapon attack against the attacker as part of the same reaction.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Dexterity modifier (minimum of one), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Level 13: Secrets of the Veil
Starting at 13th level, your mastery over ethereal boundaries allows you to weave planar distortions directly into your strikes. These techniques represent short, violent distortions of the space between spaces, momentarily disturbing the area around your target. When you use Cunning Strike, you gain access to the following additional options:
Rift Step (Cost: 2d6)
You momentarily vanish and reappear. You teleport up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.
Phase Desync (Cost: 3d6)
The target becomes partially out of phase with reality. Until the start of your next turn:
- The target has disadvantage on all attack rolls.
- The first time the target moves on its turn, it treats all movement as difficult terrain.
Spatial Rend (Cost: 3d6)
You tear at the space around the target. Until the start of your next turn:
- The target cannot take reactions.
- The target cannot make opportunity attacks.
Level 17: Master of the Threshold
Starting at 17th level, you can fully step into the space between planes.
As a bonus action, you can fully shift into the space between planes for 1 minute. While fully shifted, you gain all the benefits of your Planeshift feature, and you gain the following additional benefits:
- You are invisible to creatures on the Material Plane.
- You have resistance to all damage.
- You ignore magical difficult terrain.
- Enemy creatures treat the area within 10 feet of you as difficult terrain.
When you deal Sneak Attack damage, you become visible and can be targeted normally until the start of your next turn.
This feature can be used once per long rest.
