Base Class: Monk
It is said that when an item is treated with care, a soul will come to inhabit it. A Warrior of Vital Instruments is a Monk that follows the teachings that all items created by people have value and deserve respect. These Monks have developed magical techniques to imbue their internal energy into items, both magical and mundane, and bring out their true value as tools known as "Vital Instruments." Often crafters or former merchants, the Monks that follow these teachings have both a profound respect for items and a deep well of knowledge about a variety of magic items. For a Warrior of Vital Instruments all items are worth cherishing and any item can be a powerful weapon.
Level 3: Improvised Martial Arts
Any item can be a weapon in your hands. Improvised weapons are considered Monk weapons for you and you have proficiency with improvised weapons.
If you are holding a magic item that is not a weapon you gain a +1 bonus to your attack rolls when using it as an improvised weapon. This bonus increases to +2 when you reach level 9 in this class and to +3 at level 13.
Level 3: Magic Item Expert
You have spent many hours studying and working with a variety of items, both magical and mundane. You learn the Mending cantrip, and you can cast the Detect Magic and Identify spells but only as Rituals. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for them.
In addition, you gain proficiency in Arcana and can use your Wisdom for Arcana checks instead of Intelligence.
Level 6: Item Master Techniques
You have learned how to use your internal energy to connect to items. As a Bonus Action you can expend 2 Focus Points to use one of the following effects.
Sense Item. You cast the Locate Object spell. If the object you name is being carried by a creature, you know the creature’s type.
Cleanse Item. You cast the Dispel Magic spell. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. Once you use this effect you cannot do so again until you finish a Short Rest.
Enhance Item. You imbue an item you are holding with power. For 1 minute you deal an additional 1d6 Force damage when you hit with an attack using the item as an improvised weapon. While enhanced in this way the item becomes immune to all damage and becomes a magic item if it is nonmagical.
Level 11: Boon of Bonding
You can now attune to up to four magic items. You gain a +1 bonus to all saving throws and ability checks for every two magic items you are attuned to.
In addition, when you attack with an improvised weapon you can deal Force damage instead of its normal damage type and if you throw the improvised weapon, it reappears in your hand the instant after it hits or misses a target.
Level 17: True Vital Instrument
You have mastered the technique of drawing out the true power of the items you have bonded to. You can attack three times instead of once whenever you take the Attack action on your turn if all attacks are made with an improvised weapon.
In addition, if the improvised weapon you attack with is a magic item that allows you to use an action to activate its effect, you can do so as a Bonus Action after making an attack.

Posted Feb 10, 2026Based on the manga/anime series GACHIAKUTA. The goal was to allow the player to use any item as a weapon, while also giving the Monk some out-of-combat utility, which I feel like the base class lacks. The power level of the Subclass greatly depends on what items your DM gives the party, but it should perform equally as well as other Monk Subclasses regardless.
All features are implemented to work with D&D Beyond Character sheets. Let me know if there's any issues. I hope you give it a try and enjoy it.
Oh, and if you're a fan of GACHIAKUTA please let me know what you think.
