Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Your pact draws on power from beyond the material plane, whether that be from the realms of Hell, The abyss, or even a celestial domain. Your patron controls the boundary between life and death, keeping them well separated, as they should be. You are their emissary and enforcer on the mortal plane.

Level 3: Soul Warden Spells

The magic of your patron ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Warlock level specified in the Soul Warden Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Custom Spell: Command Undead

Level: 1

Casting Time: 1 Action

Range: 60 ft.

Components: V, S

Duration: Instantaneous

School: Enchantment

Attack/Save: WIS Save

You reveal your Keeper’s Token toward an undead within range, and speak a one-word command. You don’t have to see the creature, but you need to know where it is. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or follow the command on its next turn. A target creature will not directly damage itself or its allies. Examples of commands you can use are:

Approach. The target moves toward you by the shortest and most direct route, ending its turn if it moves within 5 feet of you.

Drop. The target drops whatever it is holding and then ends its turn.

Flee. The target spends its turn moving away from you by the fastest available means.

Release. If a target is possessing or grappling another creature, they release them, and move to the nearest empty space.

Grovel. The target has the Prone condition and then ends its turn.

Halt. On its turn, the target doesn’t move and takes no action or Bonus Action.

Submit. Until its next turn, the target is willing to be destroyed by the Token’s Destroy Undead feature.

Warden's Token

Your patron has bestowed upon you an object capable of capturing and controlling the undead you hunt. The appearance and physical properties of the object are up to you and your DM. It has the following properties:

  • While the Warden's Token is in your possession, you cannot be possessed by any ghost, spirit, or other undead forces. If you are possessed when the Token is returned to you, the possessing entity is ejected from your body and mind.
  • As a bonus action, you can summon your Warden's Token to your hand. It remains summoned until you are incapacitated or use another bonus action to dismiss it. (Or you may choose to make it a permanent object which cannot be dismissed)
  • Destroy Undead: Once per turn, you can target a willing or incapacitated undead creature. If the creature has a physical body (or is currently occupying someone else’s!), it becomes permanently de-animated and the body turns to ash. If the creature has a soul, the soul is absorbed into the Warden's Token until released by you or your patron.
  • Command Undead: As an action, you may cast the Command Undead spell at the 1 level without using a spell slot. You may increase the level of the spell using your own available spell slots. Each day, you may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
  • You may choose to release a soul from the Warden's Token.

Level 6: Warden's Protection

Once per day, you may use your action to hold your Warden's Token aloft and a radiant light explodes from it, dealing 2d8 radiant damage to any undead creature within 60 ft. Each creature (besides you and anyone with forewarning) within range must make a constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is blinded until the end of their next turn. If the creature is undead, they are also stunned for 1 minute.

Level 10: Ethereal Sense

You can see into the Ethereal Plane no matter where you are. You can sense the presence of the undead within 500 feet. Within 250 feet you can sense the direction of the undead and their cumulative power, and can pinpoint an undead creature’s location and strength within 120 feet.

Level 14: Ethereal Aspect

You have taken on aspects of the Undead you hunt. Undead creatures see you as one of their own, and will not attack you unless directly provoked or under the control of someone else. As an action, you can cast the spell Etherealness without using a spell slot.
