Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Path of the Construct

For some barbarians, rage is born of instinct, spirit, or ancestral fury. For you, it is forged in steel.

Those who follow the Path of the Construct have discovered and bonded with a fragment of rare, otherworldly metal — a material not meant for mortal hands. Whether salvaged from an ancient war machine, fallen from the heavens, or pried from the ruins of a forgotten civilization, this metal does not merely adorn the barbarian — it becomes part of them.

Through ritual reforging, surgical grafting, or sheer stubborn will, you incorporate this metal into your body. It fuses with bone and sinew, replacing weakness with precision and instinct with engineered brutality. When you enter overdrive (rage), the metal awakens. Veins glow with internal heat, plates shift and lock into place, and hidden mechanisms hum to life.

Your fury is no longer just primal — it is mechanical.

As you walk this path, your body becomes an evolving weapon. Each battle tempers you further, strengthening the bond between flesh and forged alloy. Emotion becomes power. Impact becomes calibration. Pain becomes fuel.

Some Construct barbarians view themselves as the next stage of evolution — living engines of war. Others fear what they are becoming, wondering where the metal ends and they begin.

But in battle, such questions fall silent beneath the sound of grinding steel and the unstoppable force of your overdrive (rage).

Alloy Interface

Your integrated metal grants you an innate awareness of other constructed beings.

You can communicate simple ideas with Constructs as if sharing a specialized mechanical language. This communication does not require a shared spoken language, but it can be understood only by Constructs.

In addition, you can focus your senses to detect nearby artificial life. As an action, you emit a detection resonant pulse and learn the location of any Constructs within 60 feet of you that are not behind total cover. You learn only their presence and location, not their identity or statistics.

You can use this detection feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

This feature is not magical spellcasting — it represents harmonic resonance, vibration sensing, and your growing integration with constructed forms.

Forged Matrix

At 3rd level, you complete the first stage of your mechanical transformation by integrating a rare and powerful metal into your body. This metal forms a forge matrix — a living lattice of alloy, arcane resonance, and reinforced structure that awakens when you enter overdrive (rage).

Each forge matrix alters your combat capabilities in a different way, reflecting the properties of the metal bound within you. Your chosen matrix grants you benefits while you are in overdrive (raging).

You must choose one forge matrix at 3rd level. Your choice represents the foundational metal fused into your body and cannot be changed later.

Adamantine Core

Your body becomes nearly unbreakable, absorbing punishment that would shatter others.

While in overdrive (raging), you have resistance to all damage except psychic damage.

Brass Dynamo

Internal pistons and brass-driven momentum propel you forward.

While raging and not wearing heavy armor:

  • Your walking speed increases by 15 feet.

Magnetized Iron

Your metal core resonates with nearby allies, pulling them into coordinated assault.

While you are in overdrive (raging), your allies have advantage on melee attack rolls against any creature within 5 feet of you that is hostile to you.

Quicksilver Frame

Liquid metal shifts across your limbs, lightening your frame and enhancing your mobility.

While in overdrive (raging) and not wearing heavy armor:

  • Other creatures have disadvantage on opportunity attacks against you.

  • You can use the Dash action as a bonus action on your turn.

Serrated Steel

Bladed ridges and reinforced joints enhance your explosive movement.

While you're in overdrive (raging), you can add 10 feet to your long jump distance and 3 feet to your high jump distance.

Alloy Adaptation

At 6th level, your forge matrix refines itself, enhancing your body according to the metal integrated within you. You gain a benefit based on the metal upgrade of your choice. You can choose the same upgrade you selected at 3rd level or a different one.

Adamantine Core

Your reinforced frame allows you to endure extreme punishment.. Your carrying capacity (including maximum load and maximum lift) is doubled, and you have advantage on Strength checks made to push, pull, lift, or break objects.

Brass Dynamo

Your internal pistons increase your momentum. Whether mounted or on foot, your travel pace is doubled, as is the travel pace of up to ten companions while they’re within 60 feet of you and you’re not incapacitated (see “Adventuring,” for rules on travel pace).

Magnetized Iron

Your presence enhances coordination and awareness. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks while traveling at a fast pace, and you can move stealthily while traveling at a normal pace (see “Adventuring,” for rules on travel pace).

Quicksilver Frame

Your joints shift with liquid precision and your Optics sharpen. You gain Darkvision out to 60 feet. If you already have Darkvision, its range increases by 60 feet.

Serrated Steel

Your presence enhances coordination and awareness. You gain proficiency in two skills from the following list: Athletics, Acrobatics, Stealth, and Survival.

Core Resonance

At 10th level, your Alloy Interface hums with heightened awareness, allowing you to perceive artificial life with precision.

Your Alloy Interface feature improves in the following ways:

  • The range of your detection pulse increases to 120 feet.

  • You can detect inactive Constructs, dormant machines, and creatures created or animated by magic (such as animated objects), provided they are not behind total cover.

  • When you use your detection pulse, you also learn whether each detected entity is active, inactive, or magically animated.

Additionally, you can communicate complex ideas with Constructs, including tactical intent, emotional states, and warnings of danger.

You regain all expended uses of your detection pulse when you finish a short or long rest.

Overdrive State

At 14th level, your metal plating shifts into a heightened configuration enhancing your body according to the metal integrated within you. You gain a benefit based on the metal upgrade of your choice.

Adamantine Core

While you’re raging, any creature within 5 feet of you that’s hostile to you has disadvantage on attack rolls against targets other than you or another character with this feature. An enemy is immune to this effect if it can’t see or hear you or if it can’t be frightened.

Brass Dynamo

While you're in overdrive (raging), you can use a bonus action during your move to pass through the space of a Large or smaller creature. That creature must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your Strength bonus + your proficiency bonus) or be knocked prone and take bludgeoning damage equal to 1d12 + your Strength modifier.

Magnetized Iron

While you’re in overdrive (raging), you can use a bonus action on your turn to knock a Large or smaller creature prone when you hit it with melee weapon attack.

Quicksilver Frame

While you're in overdrive (raging), your movement speed becomes 60 feet.

Serrated Steel

While you’re in overdrive (raging), if you move at least 20 feet in a straight line toward a Large or smaller target right before making a melee weapon attack against it, you can use a bonus action to make an additional melee weapon attack against it.
