Base Class: Barbarian
Preparing Spells. The Painforged Spell List shows the spells you can learn. You prepare the list of Painforged spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the Painforged spell list. When you do so, choose a number of Painforged spells equal to half your barbarian level (rounded down) + your Strength modifier (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you can cast. Additionally, you can prepare a number of ritual spells from the Painforged Spell List equal to half the number of spells you can prepare for that level (rounded down). These ritual spells do not count against your total number of prepared spells. You can only cast these spells as rituals. You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of spells requires time spent in painful, focus-inducing meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list. Spellcasting Ability. Strength is your spellcasting ability for your Painforged spells. The power of your magic comes from the raw, physical force of your rage. You use your Strength whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Strength modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one. Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier Casting Spells. You don’t have spell slots. Instead, when you cast a spell, you must take a certain amount of piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning damage to yourself. Cantrips: Take 1 damage to cast a cantrip. 1st-Level Spells: Take 10 damage to cast a 1st-level spell. 2nd-Level Spells: Take 20 damage to cast a 2nd-level spell. 3rd-Level Spells: Take 30 damage to cast a 3rd-level spell. 4th-Level Spells: Take 40 damage to cast a 4th-level spell. You can cast spells outside of rage, but you don’t gain the benefits of other class features that require a rage state. Ritual Casting. You can cast any Painforged spell you know that has the ritual tag as a ritual. To do so, you must spend at least 10 minutes in painful, focus inducing meditation. This form of casting does not require you to take damage.
Painfueled Casting Starting at 3rd level, when you enter a rage, you can cast one of your action-based cantrips as part of the bonus action you use to enter a rage. When the artifact must make a concentration check, it uses a D20 plus your Rage damage bonus plus your proficiency bonus.

Delirious Rebuke At 6th level, your connection to the artifact deepens. Whenever you are subjected to a saving throw and would fail, the artifact forces a painful response. You can choose to take 10 slashing damage to add twice your Rage damage bonus to the save. If this causes you to succeed on the saving throw, you can immediately cast a damaging spell of 1st or 2nd level from your Painforged spell list as a reaction. Unleashed Fury By 10th level, the artifact has taught you to weaponize your pain. When you enter a rage, you can immediately cast an action-based spell of 1st or 2nd level from your Painforged spell list. Additionally, you can upcast a spell you know to a level higher than you could normally cast. The number of levels you can upcast a spell is equal to your Rage damage bonus. The damage you take to cast the spell is increased by 10 damage for each spell level it is upcast. For example, to upcast a 3rd-level spell to 6th level, you would take the base damage for a 3rd-level spell (30) plus 10 damage for each of the 3 additional levels, for a total of 60 damage. Cataclysmic Release At 14th level, your fury and the artifact’s magic become one. You can cast the following spells, each once per long rest, without taking damage: disintegrate, steel wind strike, and circle of power. Additionally, as a bonus action while you are raging, you can modify one of your concentration spells to be without concentration for 1 minute. To do so, you must take bludgeoning damage equal to the base damage for the spell level plus 10 damage for each spell level.
