Base Class: Wizard
Most wizards view fire as the most straightforward expression of arcane destruction. A blast of flame consumes, a burning ray incinerates, and an inferno leaves only ash behind. Cauterist Savants see something deeper within the flame.
To them, fire is transformation.
Just as a cauterizing blade seals a wound with heat, the Cauterist Savant studies the subtle interplay between destruction and renewal. Through careful manipulation of arcane energies, these wizards learn to reshape the raw power of fire spells, turning catastrophic heat into life-restoring force.
Scholars often debate whether such magic borders on the divine. Clerics sometimes claim that healing belongs solely to the gods, while druids argue that life energy cannot truly come from flame. Cauterists reject both claims. To them, the answer lies in the nature of energy itself: nothing is ever truly lost—only changed.
On the battlefield, a Cauterist Savant is unpredictable. One moment they may unleash a roaring fireball capable of leveling a squad of enemies. The next, that same burst of flame blossoms outward as a wave of warmth that mends wounds and rekindles fading life.
This power comes with risk. When a Cauterist converts flame into healing, the magic does not discriminate. Allies and enemies alike may feel the surge of vitality. As a result, practitioners of this tradition must master both their magic and their judgment, learning when the moment calls for destruction—and when it calls for renewal.
Many Cauterist Savants develop distinctive visual signatures for their magic. Their healing flames may burn gold, white, or deep crimson, and the air often fills with drifting sparks that resemble glowing embers or phoenix feathers. Those who witness such magic often describe it as unsettling: a fire that burns without harm, yet pulses with the same terrifying intensity as its destructive counterpart.
To the Cauterist Savant, however, the truth is simple:
Fire does not merely end things.
Sometimes, it begins them again.
Cauterizing Transmutation
Level 2 — Cauterizing Transmutation
You can convert destructive fire magic into restorative energy.
When you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or higher that deals fire damage, you may choose to convert the spell’s fire damage into healing.
If you do:
• The spell deals no damage.
• Instead, creatures affected by the spell regain hit points equal to the fire damage rolled.
The healing affects all creatures that would have taken the damage, including enemies.
For example, if you cast fireball, every creature in the radius regains hit points equal to the damage rolled.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses after a long rest.
Vital Sparks
Vital Sparks
Your destructive flames leave restorative embers in their wake.
Whenever you deal fire damage with a wizard spell, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet. That creature gains temporary hit points equal to your Intelligence modifier + the spell’s level.
You can use this feature once per turn.
Master of the Inner Flame
Master of the Inner Flame
Your mastery of fire protects you from its worst effects.
You gain:
• Resistance to fire damage
Additionally, when you roll fire damage for a spell, you can treat any damage die result of 1 as a 2.
Phoenix Engine
Phoenix Engine
You have mastered the cycle of destruction and renewal within flame. When your life is threatened, that power erupts in a blaze of restorative fire.
When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can instead drop to 1 hit point and erupt with phoenix fire.
When this happens, all creatures within 20 feet of you regain hit points equal to twice your wizard level + your Intelligence modifier.
After this eruption, you become a conduit of living flame for 5 rounds. During this time:
• When you cast a wizard spell that deals fire damage, you can convert the damage into healing without expending uses of your Cauterizing Transmutation feature.
• Creatures that regain hit points from your fire spells regain additional hit points equal to your Intelligence modifier.
• You gain immunity to fire damage.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest
