Base Class: Wizard
"I walk the valleys of umbra, searching for some light, but the shadows devour it all. This is my punishment for being too ambitious. But the truth is: pain and agony are adversities, and evolution can only exist through adversity." — Sartre, mage of death
The School of Necromancy focuses on undead creatures and the control of life and death. Necromancer wizards learn how to deal with corpses from the very start of their studies. They are usually apathetic and pragmatic — many of them lose their understanding of the meaning of life. The school is famous for its students who achieved the lichdom.
Level 3: Level 3: Necromancy Savant
Choose two Wizard spells from the Necromancy school, each of which must be no higher than level 2, and add them to your spellbook for free. In addition, whenever you gain access to a new level of spell slots in this class, you can add one Wizard spell from the Necromancy school.
Level 3: Level 3: Grim Harvest
When you kill a creature with a spell, you regain hit points equal to twice the spell's level. If the spell is from the Necromancy school, you regain hit points equal to three times the spell's level instead. You can choose to have one of your summoned undead creatures regain these hit points instead of yourself. This feature has no effect when you kill Constructs or Undead.
Level 6: Level 6: Power of the Undying
You learn the Summon Undead spell. It doesn't count against the number of spells you can learn, and it is always prepared for you.
When you cast this spell using a spell slot, it requires no Concentration and ignores its Material components. If you cast this spell again while a creature summoned by it is still active, that creature immediately perishes — unless you have reached level 10 in this class, in which case you may have up to two creatures summoned simultaneously, or level 14, up to three.
Level 6: Level 6: Grave Power
You have discovered more necromantic insights and inscribed them in your spellbook. While holding your spellbook, you gain the following benefits.
- Necrotic Resistance. You have Resistance to Necrotic damage.
- Overwhelming Necrosis. Damage from your Wizard spells and Wizard features ignores Resistance to Necrotic damage.
Level 10: Level 10: Necropotence
Your necromantic spells reach new heights of power. When you cast a Necromancy spell using a spell slot, you can choose to treat the spell as if it were cast using a spell slot one level higher than the one expended. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 14: Level 14: Death Mastery
Your deep mastery over necromancy empowers the undead you summon. Creatures summoned by your Summon Undead spell gain the following improvements:
- Spellcasting Vessel. When you cast a spell, you can choose one of your summoned undead creatures to be the point of origin for that spell instead of yourself.
- Ghostly. Deathly Touch deals 2d8 + 3 + the spell's level Necrotic damage instead of 1d8 + 3 + the spell's level.
- Skeletal. Grave Bolt deals 3d4 + 3 + the spell's level Necrotic damage instead of 2d4 + 3 + the spell's level, and ignores half cover and three-quarters cover.
- Putrid. Rotting Claw deals 2d6 + 3 + the spell's level damage instead of 1d6 + 3 + the spell's level.
