Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of the Blue Lotus is a unique style that until recently has only ever been taught at the monestary of the Blue Lotus. That is, until it was burned to the ground, it's masters slain. Any surviving students now try to remember their master's teachings, struggling to piece together the threatened art before it is lost forever.

The Way of the Blue Lotus takes heavy inspiration from the movements of water. It is characterized by fluid and circular motions, which always vary in speed, tempo, height and direction. The spine acts as the center of rotation for all movements. Energy and movement should alternately be opening and closing, rising and sinking, moving forwards and backwards in a spiraling motion, guided by ones mind and intention rather than being forced by physical exertion.

Level 3: Ebb and Flow

Learning from the movement of water, you have adopted circular, flowing movements, letting you harmonize offense and defense.

  • If you hit a creature with two unarmed strikes on the same turn, you don't provoke opportunity attacks from them on that turn.
  • If you take the Dodge action on your turn, you also keep your guard up. If a creature misses you with a melee attack at some point until the benefit of the Dodge action wears of (your next turn or your speed dropping to 0), you can make an Unarmed Strike against them as a reaction.
  • When you take the Dash action, the next attack against you until the start of your next turn has disadvantage. You lose this benefit if your speed is reduced to 0.

Level 6: Ki Circulation

By spending one minute performing a martial routine, you can strengthen the harmonies between your body, mind and Ki through your movement. You regain all spent Ki points.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.

Level 11: Follow, Return, Retain

Through further focus of your technique, you have further improved on the ebb and flow of your movements.

  • If you hit a creature with two unarmed strikes on the same turn, you can spend 1 Ki point to immediately move up to half your speed. If you do, opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage until the end of your turn.
  • When you use your Deflect Missile feature, if the triggering attack roll was made at Disadvantage, you can reduce the damage you take from the attack by an additional d10. If you do, you do not need to be able to hold the projectile in one hand to attempt to attack with it (although you must spend a Ki point as normal).
  • When you take the Disengage or Dash action, you can spend 2 Ki points. If you do, immediately end the grappled or restrained condition on you. Your speed cannot be reduced by any means until the start of your next turn.

Level 17: Ceaseless Tides

Just as the tides will always rise and fall and the waves will always crash and return, you are always ready to return the strikes of your enemies. In combat, you get a special reaction that you can take once on every creature’s turn, except your turn. You can use this special reaction only to use your Deflect Missile feature or make an attack with your Ebb and Flow feature, and you can’t use it on the same turn that you take your normal reaction.
