Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Those who take on the path of the Bulwark accept the burden of pain, training their bodies to become the ultimate bastion against the forces of destruction. Clad in heavy armor or towering shields, a Bulwark has not the grace of a noble knight or a magic swordsman. They are an instrument of endurance, holding the link and bearing the weight that their allies cannot. Such a path is rarely lonely, often spent in the company of battle-made allies. But it is a path of turmoil, and one that only the most steel-hearted can endure.

Immovable Object

3rd-level Bulwark feature

You've finished your training in either mitigating or outright ignoring damage. You have a pool of Endurance Points equal to 2 x your Constitution modifier + 5 x your fighter level. When you take damage while wearing heavy armor, you can use your reaction to expend Endurance Points, reducing the damage taken by 1 for each point spent. If you would reduce the damage to 0, then you can make a single melee attack against the damage source as part of the same reaction (provided they're within your reach).

You regain all spent Endurance Points when you finish a long rest. You can also regain an amount equal to twice your Constitution modifier when:

  • You finish a short rest.
  • You roll a 1 on a saving throw from a hostile creature.
  • A creature rolls a 20 on an attack roll against you.

Resistance and then vulnerability are applied after all other modifiers to damage. For example, a creature has resistance to fire damage and is hit by an attack that deals 25 fire damage. The creature also has the Bulwark subclass and spends 5 Endurance points to reduce the damage by 5. The 25 damage is first reduced by 5 and then halved, so the creature takes 10 damage.

Physical Instrument

3rd-level Bulwark feature

When you hit a creature with an attack using your reaction, that creature has disadvantage on attack rolls against any creature but you until the end of its next turn.

Unwavering

7th-level Bulwark feature

You've hardened your body to be unmoving in the face of any threat. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

In addition, the following conditions are modifier for you:

  • Frightened no longer prevents you from moving closer to its source.
  • Exhaustion no longer has any effect on you, so long as you only have one level.
  • It only takes 5 feet of movement for you to stand up from being prone.

Unshakable

10th-level Bulwark feature

You've learned how to steel both your body and mind against any threat. You can add half your Constitution modifier (rounded up) to your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throws. Moreover, if you end your turn incapacitated, paralyzed, or stunned, you can spend 5 Endurance Points to immediately remove any effects causing those conditions on you.

Unstoppable

15th-level Bulwark feature

You've manifested the ability to tap into deep reserves of strength within yourself. When you use your Action Surge or Second Wind features, you gain temporary hit points equal to twice your fighter level. If at or below half your maximum hit points when you do so, you can instead regain an equal amount of hit points.

Unkillable

18th-level Bulwark feature

You've surpassed the idea of dying - at least when it matters. When you are reduced to 0 hit poitns but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead and regain 20 Endurance Points. Once you use this feature you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend a use of Indomitable to use it again.
