Monk
Base Class: Monk

The monks learn to influence their ki into their fighting style in the form of Rock, Paper, Scissors as fighting techniques

Jan Ken Stance

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can harness your ki into three distinct forms.

As a bonus action on your turn you can enter your Jan Ken Stance. When you do this you choose to either say "Show me Rock", "Show me Paper", or "Show me Scissors" (This does not have to be the same as the attack) and choose whether the sign you throw will be Rock, Paper, or Scissors. This decision is not told to the DM but is told to a trust worthy party member. Each of these signs are different attacks  that function in different ways. Getting hit will not knock you out of this stance but all attacks while you are in the stance are made with advantage. When the sign is thrown out the player who was told of the decision will confirm if you threw the correct sign. If the sign you threw out is different than was chosen then you are hit with the damage of the attack.

  • Jan Ken Rock - The user focuses all their ki into their fist for a devastating blow. On hit the attack does 2 martial arts die + dex modifier
  • Jan Ken Paper- The user first focuses ki into their fist before emitting it out as a projectile. On hit the attack does 1 martial arts die + dex modifier
  • Jan Ken Scissor- The user first focuses ki into their first then forms in into a protruding blade to perform a sweeping attack. On hit the attack does  1 martial arts die + dex modifier

Once in the Jan Ken stance you cannot move or perform any other action other than to charge your sign. As an action on every turn following the one where you entered your stance you can spend a ki point to increase the damage by 2 martial arts die. As you charge the ki around your hand grows and becomes more visible.

False Sign

At 6th level, you gain the ability to fake out an opponent with your stance. As a part of the Action used to enter your stance instead of Choosing to hold Rock, Paper, or Scissors, you can instead choose to hold a normal fist and use your ki on your body instead.

  • Jan Ken Fake - The user enters their stance but discreetly spreads their ki across their body giving a +2 to their AC until the stance is released. This attack can be released in two ways, the first is to absorb your spent ki back into not performing an attack and regaining any ki point spent charging. The second way is by throwing a basic unarmed strike.

When you use your action to charge on subsequent turns you focus extra ki into your fist adding 1d4 to the damage of the unarmed strike.

Ki Mastery

Three abilities are gained from Ki Mastery

Explosive Ki

You gain the ability to release a large amount of Ki in one go. When you enter your stance you can spend any number of Ki points gaining the effects of charging for that many turns (for example if you spend 2 ki points on activation you would get the +4 or +2 martial arts dice and visual effects that you would have gotten from charging for two turns). Every turn you want to charge after that you can still only spend 1 ki point to charge. After using this ability you gain 1 level of exhaustion after the sign is released.

Refined Ki

Your training has caused your ki to become a higher quality that it was before, now more powerful and controlled. When charging a sign you gain an extra martial arts dice per charge (for example for Rock, Paper, and Scissors you gain 3 martial arts dice when charging instead of two and for False Sign you gain 2 martial arts dice per charge). When you enter use you stance to perform Jan Ken Fake you gain +3 to AC instead of +2. (This still effects the charges of Explosive Ki)

Battle Focused

When you would gain a level of exhaustion during a round of combat you instead gain it as soon as the combat is over. (For example lets say you used Explosive Ki three times, instead of having all three levels of exhaustion during the battle you have no exhaustion during the battle but as soon as it is over you gain all three. Note that this works for exhaustion that would be given by other means as well). If you ever have no ki points left after the end of throwing a sign you fall unconscious. You remain unconscious for the length on one long rest, but after you wake up you only regain half of your ki points and must take another rest to regain the remaining amount of Ki points missing

Endless Ki

At 17th level, you gain the ability to create more ki within yourself. As an action on your turn you can choose to enter a charging stance (What this stance looks like is up to you).

  • Jan Ken Charge - The user enters a stance and begins focusing on charging their ki. For every turn you charge including the one is was activated you gain an amount of Ki points equal to your proficiency bonus. While in this stance you cannot move or perform any other actions other than to stop charging or charge more. Any landed attack against you while in this stance is made with advantage and taking damage while in this stance will knock you out of it.
