Base Class: Monk
Strike Foes with Psionic Blades
A Soulknife strikes with the mind, cutting through barriers both physical and psychic. These Monks discover psionic power within themselves and channel it to do their work. As a Soulknife, your psionic abilities might have haunted you since childhood, revealing their full potential only as you experienced the stress of adventure. Or you might have sought out an order of psychic adepts and spent years learning how to manifest your power.
Level 3: Psychic Blades
You can manifest shimmering blades of psychic energy. Whenever you take the Attack action or make an Opportunity Attack, you can manifest a Psychic Blade in your free hand and make the attack with that blade. The magic blade has the following traits:
Weapon Category: Simple Melee
Damage on a Hit: 1d6 Psychic plus the ability modifier used for the attack roll
Properties: Finesse, Light, Thrown (range 60/120 feet)
Mastery: Nick (you can use this property, and it doesn’t count against the number of properties you can use with Weapon Mastery)
The blade vanishes immediately after it hits or misses its target, and it leaves no mark if it deals damage. You can also use the Bonus Unarmed Strike part of the Martial Arts feature with a Psychic Blade, and when you make an extra attack as a result of using a Psychic Blade in your other hand, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of that attack if you aren’t already adding it to the damage.
Level 6: Perfect State
Your weapon becomes an extension of yourself, flowing naturally with your abilities, and you learn to channel your Focus into the blades.
Step of the Mind. When you spend a Focus Point to enhance your Step of the Wind feature, you can instead throw a Psychic Blade at an unoccupied space you can see, up to 60 feet away. You then teleport to that space, and the blade vanishes.
Blade Flurry. When you make a Flurry of Blows, you can make the additional attacks with your Psychic Blades.
Sharpen Mind. As a part of any action that conjures a Psychic Blade, on any of your turns, you can spend 1 Focus Point to sharpen your mind for 1 minute. For this duration your attacks with Psychic Blades score a Critical Hit on a roll of 19-20 on the d20. Additionally, you can choose for your blades to deal Force damage, rather than Psychic.
Level 11: Power of the Mind
Your psionic abilities manifest more completely, giving you greater control and power in your mental abilities.
Consumptive Blade. Whenever you kill a creature with your Soul Blade that has an Intelligence of 6 or higher, you can use your reaction to draw in part of their psionic essence. You regain 1d4 hit points and 1 expended Focus point.
Mental Might. Immediately after you score a Critical Hit with your Psychic Blade, you can spend 1 Focus Point to increase the weapon damage of that attack by one Martial Arts die.
Level 17: Rend Mind
Your psionic mastery can pierce the mind of your opponents. Critical hits from your Psychic Blade rend the soul of their target, causing the target to have Disadvantage on the next Saving Throw it makes, before the end of your next turn.
Additionally, Sharpen Mind cause your Psychic Blades to score a Critical Hit on a roll of 18-20 on the d20.
